ROSNO of SK (SAP BusinessObjects)

The BI Partner company and DIT JSC ROSNO completed implementation of MIS (Management Information System) on the basis of the corporate data warehouse in one of the largest Russian insurance companies which is actively working in all segments of insurance business.

The project on creation of MIS (Management Information System is the Executive information system) ROSNO lasted more than 2 years. The implemented system is intended for providing company management, heads of the centers of insurance, the centers of sales and financial and economic service by information necessary for effective management of business and decision makings.

By the time of start of the project the problem of automation of the main business processes was solved. The problem stood in:

• speeds of preparation of reports;
• quality of information;
• impossibility to independently create own report forms.

At the same time the company needed to calculate and analyze several hundred indicators at the number of insurance agreements reaching 2 million. Preparation of summary reports was executed using unloadings of a DB of the different systems and further manual processing in Excel. Such situation resulted in need to use the huge efforts to many departments of the company at the time of closing of the period and excluded a possibility of the independent analysis of different indicators company executives and the centers of insurance.

The company management became the initiator and the project orderer, and for implementation of a system the BI Partner company specializing in projects in the field of the analytical reporting and creation of data warehouses was invited. From ROSNO the associate director of DIT Tikhonov Sergey Evgenyevich directed the project.

Platform of the project

For the organization of the data warehouse the relational Oracle Enterprise Edition DBMS of 9 i which well proved for use as the platform for the analytical systems on the 4th the processor Sun 880 server was selected. The subsystem of the analytical reporting is implemented on software of Business Objects company: it is used both the client for the BusinessObjects local area networks and the version for work through web WebIntelligence. Application of Broadcast Agent allowed to automate process of preparation of procedural reports.

Implementation of a system

Within the project the structure of the uniform data warehouse, the procedure of directory synchronization and loading of information and also about fifty reports were developed. Now information from 2 corporate information systems of own development (CIS - the system of the head company, and RKIS - a system where information on business gathers in regions), by Oracle E - Business Suite, Cognos EP and several spreadsheets storing information on rules of measure calculation is loaded into the data warehouse

The project was broken into stages so that at first to conduct examination of data sources, to execute design of the general structure of storage, and further to load separate sources. At the last additional stage of works the data mart for measure calculation of profit of the company was designed and implemented.

Corporate information systems of ROSNO are very dynamic and are in development. For reduction of dependence of impacts of the changes made in sources the decision to transfer data from CIS and RKIS to storage not directly, and through the interface tables was made. It allowed to reduce the total costs of the project and its maintenance. As in systems sources there is no opportunity to correctly define the changes which happened from the moment of the last loading, a set of algorithms implementing incremental loading was also developed.

"During the MIS project the budgeting system was implemented into the companies, method of calculation of indicators of profit changed, works on reconfiguration of reference books were carried out. The project team not only quickly reacted to these changes, but also made a number of very valuable amendments, making use of rich experience of creation of data warehouses of BI Partner and our knowledge of insurance business", - Alexander Bogatyrev, the deputy CEO of ROSNO for informatization noted.

The received result and development plans for a system

Now MIS is used for monitoring of financial and economic activity, control of dynamics of sales of insurance products, calculation of dynamics and trends of key indicators, the analysis of planned and actual targets on types of insurance, lines of business, insurance products and other analytical cuts. System implementation allowed to increase significantly quality of information and speed of its receiving. For example, calculation of profit for one reporting period takes less than an hour - instead of 4 days which were required earlier.

In the future ROSNO plans development of MIS, connection to it of new information systems and expansion of functionality.
