2012: Stop of supply of gas to Tajikistan

  • In 2012 supply of the Uzbek gas to Tajikistan stopped for 2 days - on January 4 and 5. Tashkent explained then that the contract for 2012 was not signed. As a result of paper were signed and deliveries continued.

As notes the agency, Uzbekistan - the only foreign supplier of gas to Tajikistan, and own extraction of this fuel in the country is insignificant.

The management of Uztransgaz wrote to Dushanbe that for it it is more important to fulfill obligations for deliveries before the main partner - China. Tashkent decided to stop deliveries "because of the shortage of gas resources".

"It is difficult to agree with explanations of the Uzbek side because at the moment daily production of natural gas in Uzbekistan is over 200 million cubic meters that is almost equal to volumes of the planned deliveries to Tajikistan for all 2012", - said the Tajik ministry. What it is going to undertake to provide the country with fuel, is not reported.

The source of the Asia Plus edition in the Tajik power department assumed that an actual reason of the termination of deliveries - in the conflict of two states around the Farkhadsky dam and a water reservoir. In Soviet period this territory was leased to Uzbekistan and since then was not returned, and now Tashkent "intends to catch a dam and a water reservoir what the Tajik side does not agree to yet", stated a source[1].
