The CORUS Consulting group completed the project of automation of a warehouse system in Avtozapchast KAMAZ LLC, the press service of the company reported on February 4, 2013. The technology of automation is Manhattan SCALE. The project proceeded nearly one and a half years.

Background

JSC KAMAZ produces more than 40 models of machines in 1500 complete sets, cooperates with 145 dealers and 150 service centers in all regions of Russia and abroad. The nomenclature of the spare parts delivered to dealers and the service centers contains 5.5 thousand names of parts and component parts. Sales of spare parts – one of the perspective directions of business development of JSC KAMAZ therefore key tasks of Avtozapchast KAMAZ company are high-quality ensuring shipments (first of all – schedule performance and respect for completeness) and the minimum cost value of service of all logistics chain.

Taking into account these tasks the company management of JSC KAMAZ made the decision on complex upgrade of warehouse infrastructure of business on the basis of the specialized WMS solution as key instrument of increase in efficiency of warehouses. Implementation of such project allowed Avtozapchast KAMAZ LLC to provide necessary qualitative and quantitative parameters of successful work in the conditions of the active growth of cargo handling.

On analysis results of the offers presented at the Russian market of the WMS systems, the management of JSC KAMAZ stopped the choice on the product Manhattan SCALE. Future system had to meet to a number of requirements: ensuring automation of all basic warehouse processes, including such special, as preservation and packaging at acceptance, ability to integrate with the accounting system of 1C and with the systems of the mechanized storage. System implementation of management of a warehouse was executed by system integrator CORUS Consulting Group.

Solution

The central warehouse "Avtozapchast KAMAZ" has difficult topology and a large number of process areas that is caused by the extensive product range of the enterprise. The mechanized warehousing zone in the central warehouse contains more than 30 thousand pallets.

During system engineering specialists of CORUS Consulting Group held several demonstration sessions of a prototype to provide uniform understanding of a configuration of the created system at customers, key users and a project team. Such approach allows to reduce risks of ambiguous interpretation of the documented requirements at the subsequent stages of the project, in particular – upon transition to trial operation.

Automation of a full stroke of trade flows of the central warehouse and the local warehouses "feeding" trade inventories of dealers of auto parts in different regions of Russia became one of key tasks within the project. The uniform architecture of IT solution allows to receive an overall picture of work of all chain of warehouses of one command center, to manage on a centralized basis data on the main thing and regional warehouses and also increases transparency and level of supply chain management at each stage – from production to deliveries to dealers.

During the project integration with the accounting system at the 1C: Enterprise platform, integration with the system of the mechanized storage (so-called "vertical elevators") is implemented.

"The project in Avtozapchast KAMAZ differs in the fact that several parties took part in it: suppliers of technology equipment, suppliers of the loading and transport equipment, suppliers of the IT equipment, construction organization, - the deputy CEO of CORUS Consulting Group Alexander Rakhmanov noted. - As a result our project manager had to exercise control on control points so that, on the one hand, to minimize organizational load of a team of the customer, and with another - to provide the maximum utilization coefficient of own resources, the shortest period of return of the means invested by management company JSC KAMAZ.
"The project is complete, and now it is possible to say with confidence that the right choice was made, - Yakov Karpov, the deputy CEO of Avtozapchast KAMAZ LLC emphasized. - Manhattan SCALE proved to be as really strong, flexible WMS system having broad functionality, quickly reacting to the made changes.
