According to the CEO of ROSA company Dmitry Komissarov, "the ROSA Marathon 2012 operating system is focused on corporate clients to whom the high speed of work, energy efficiency, compatibility with a broad spectrum of peripheral equipment and convenience of integration into IT infrastructure of the enterprise are important".

ROSA Marathon 2012 is brought together from the stablest elements with long term of support (the LTS version — Long Time Support). The new core of a system allows to reduce energy consumption during the work with the computer to 30%. The updated base of drivers provides compatibility of OS with the majority of the modern equipment. And completion of software allowed to reduce time of installation of a distribution kit, to increase the speed of loading of the operating system and facilitated process of integration of ROSA Marathon 2012 into the operating IT infrastructure of the enterprise.

ROSA Marathon 2012 is the third product in a line of the desktop operating systems of ROSA company based on package base of 2011. In comparison with the previous versions which appeared in August and December, 2011 the distribution kit is created in own system of development of the open source ROSA ABF which codes were open on March 31, 2012.

2013: There was the second service pack for the ROSA Marathon 2012 operating system

The ROSA company released in April, 2013 the second service pack for the ROSA Marathon 2012 operating system which has the expanded (five-year) period of technical support. It included LTS versions of the application software, relevant for April, 2013, the updated core for expansion of a range of the supported equipment and also the corrections crucial for security of a system. Also in a service pack rebranding of a product line of "ROSA" is implemented - the complete name of the released version looks as ROSA Enterprise Desktop X1 now, and Marathon is used as the short code name designating a line of the desktop systems for business market and users with increased requirements to stability.

The structure of RP2 includes the planned changes of a system part of a distribution kit caused by synchronization of package base Marathon with developments of ROSA Desktop Fresh. In particular:

• At installation the user can set inclusion/switching off of the main services (Samba, OpenVPN, CUPS, SSH).
• Upgraded versions of packets of software management (RPM 5.4 and new base RPM DB5.2) are applied. It should facilitate transfer of changes from the subsequent versions of ROSA Desktop Fresh in ROSA Enterprise Desktop X1 (Marathon).
• Settings of loading (Dracut) are changed that increased stability of system operation with the video cards Nvidia/Radeon.
• The core is updated to the adjusting release 3.0.69.
• More than 1000 other changes are made.

Among updates of the application software It should be noted transition to LTS versions of LibreOffice 3.6.4, Firefox 17.0.4 and Thunderbird 17.0.4.

The ROSA Marathon 2012 operating system was submitted in May of last year. The distribution kit meets the requirements of the Linux Standard Base (LSB) standard that allows to start in a system applications, compatible to this standard, including the proprietary and commercial solutions important for corporate users. The first service pack of a system left in August, 2012. In the summer of 2012 the community ROSA released minor builds with environments of a desktop of GNOME and LXDE.
