History

2017: Start of services in a gas storage of the European companies

In May, 2017 it became known that four countries of the Above-town four (Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary) and also Italy and Turkey are interested in storage of the reserves of gas in underground storages of Ukraine (UGS). It was said by the head of department of the international cooperation and the European integration of the Ministry of Energy Aleksandra Kozlovskaya, Ukrinform reported.

"Interest is within Above-town group. The memorandum was signed with Italy, with Slovakia concerning opportunities of joint management of our GTS", - Kozlovskaya told.

According to her, the issue of opportunities of a gas storage in the Ukrainian storages was also discussed with the Turkish side.

"The possibility of a gas storage in GTS is a step to power independence. When you have a transit and pumping, you are definitely dependent on the transitor and the supplier. And having pumped gas in storages, you receive confidence in passing of a heating season - it is interesting to both the European countries, and Turkey", - the representative of the Ministry of Energy added.

In September, 2017 it was announced that the first 3 million cubic meters of natural gas according to requests of the international Trafigura traders (Switzerland) and MND (Czech Republic) are pumped in underground gas storages of Ukraine.

Gas is in UGS in the mode "customs warehouse" that allows to store it within three years without payment of any taxes and customs duties, the press service of Ukrtransgaz reports.

"It is expected that in September the operator of the gas transmission system and gas storages of Ukraine will provide the corresponding broker services to the companies and, according to their preliminary applications, will download about 50 million cubic meters of natural gas in "customs warehouse"", – it was said in the statement[1].

It is noted that Ukrtransgaz signed the relevant agreements already with eight companies among which there are international traders from the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Malta and their Ukrainian representative offices. Also there is an agreement signature process with a number of partners.

"Start of the new mode of functioning of UGS "customs warehouse" is also the next step in the direction of creation of a regional gas hub on the basis of UGS of Ukraine", – the director of business development of Ukrtransgaz Sergey Makogon noted.
