History

2022: Destruction of Russian subscribers against the backdrop of Russia's special operation in Ukraine

The American company MongoDB warned the users in Russia and Belarus that their data which are stored on the MongoDB Atlas platform will be destroyed. The corresponding notifications were received by Russian companies on March 10, 2022.

According to the official letter (TAdviser editorial office has it), due to new sanctions by the United States and other countries, the space of Russian and Belarusian companies in the Atlas MongoDB will be removed. If companies store important data on the platform, then they must be copied immediately, otherwise they will be lost irretrievably.

MongoDB Atlas is a global cloud service (Database-as-a-Service) that accelerates creation and simplifies database management for applications. The service removes the burden of managing NoSQL bases from customers and allows you to focus on applications.

According to one of the interlocutors of TAdviser, the Chief information officer of the Russian startup, MongoDB Atlas is not the most popular cloud service in the country. It is sometimes used by small companies and developers. The most popular source codes are MongoDB, which are open.

Our developers more often use "source" MongoDB to create their own products. At the same time, Russian customers always preferred on-premise solutions, not particularly trusting cloud services. Most domestic companies prefer to keep all the data in their loop. So the removal of corporate data from the Atlas MongoDB will affect few people in the Russian market, "said a source at TAdviser.

At the same time, the interlocutor of TAdviser drew attention to the fact that such actions in principle undermine confidence in global cloud services, which can negatively affect the entire IT market.

2017: IPO Application

In August 2017, it became known that the American company MongoDB, the developer of the same-name open-source document-oriented DBMS, filed an application for an initial public offer (IPO).[2]

According to the publication TechCrunch, the application necessary for the IPO has already been drawn up MongoDB, thanks to which the company expects to receive a new - that is, public - status before the end of this year.

During its existence, starting in November 2007, MongoDB Inc. (formerly known as 10gen) received investments totaling over $300 million. Notable investors include Sequoia Capital, Intel Capital and NEA.

In addition to NoSQL-DBMS MongoDB directly, the company's products and services include: the corporate edition of NoSQL-DBMS (MongoDB Enterprise), the solution for managing the DBMS on demand (Ops Manager) and in the cloud (Cloud Manager), the cloud database service as a service (DBaaS) called MongoDB Atlas. MongoDB also has a fork TokuMX, which since 2015 has been developed by Percona.
