The cellular operator of MTS upgrades technology of protection of a local network of the company against viruses

The Mobile TeleSystems company implemented in network of the central office the new system of protection against web threats based on the equipment Blue Coat.

Earlier in MTS network the Squid proxy servers which operation caused a number of problems for administrators were installed. In particular, blocking of access to certain websites and web applications it was performed on the basis of use of lists which were maintained manually by specialists of IT department, required a lot of time, and such system ceased suit the company. Other problem was connected with not authorized use of such applications as, for example, ICQ or Skype which easily bypassed protection of proxy servers. For the solution of this problem in MTS the tools based on open source allowing to analyze log-files were used, but it also took a lot of time and required considerable resources. As a result, after the analysis of all solutions existing in the market, specialists of MTS decided to select for project implementation the equipment Blue Coat – two ProxySG systems and two ProxyAV devices.

Solution

Supply of equipment was performed by Jet Infosystem company, service support of systems is performed by the authorized service center Blue Coat in Russia – Web Control company.

Four devices installed in network of the Moscow office to the company allowed to protect completely more than 7 thousand employees of the mobile operator from Internet threats and to receive several advantages, in comparison with protection based on a Squid-proxy. Blocking of access to certain categories of the websites and to applications is performed automatically based on the politician, incidents in the field of security are defined in real time, at the same time the IP address of responsible was fixed instantly. Use in network of two ProxyAV devices allowed to block up to 70% of the viruses coming to corporate network that added one more level of protection against the viruses in addition to the personal anti-virus systems set at workstations.

"Transition to Blue Coat devices allowed us to improve sharply a situation in several spheres at once, - Konstantin Solomatin, the technical specialist of MTS company told. – We could reduce the number of proxy servers from five to two, we do not need support of static lists of the blocked websites now that was very inefficient and took only a lot of time. The detailed analysis of Internet statistics takes about ten minutes instead of several weeks now and, besides, we significantly increased degree of protection against viruses and the malware".
