National Library of Russia (DPC projects of upgrade)

Within the state program "The development strategy of information society in the Russian Federation" in one of the largest Russian libraries the project on ensuring broad access to electronic funds – to digital copies of works from meetings of library, to atlases and maps, collections of cards and other invaluable materials is implemented.

Project implementation became possible thanks to creation of the data processing center (DPC) of IBM company. The fire safety of information infrastructure of RNB is ensured by the system of gas fire extinguishing on the basis of 3M of Novec 1230.

The volume of the operational data stored by DPC of RNB provides library with the necessary volume of useful information under problems of creation of a digital library and digital archive. The hardware and software system is expected ensuring working capacity in the mode five nine, and it means unavailability of the equipment of only 5 minutes 15 seconds in a year. All this allows to rank this DPC as the best library data processing centers in Russia and will allow to include it in the international information library network.

The DPC of such level should meet the high requirements of fire safety since is an object with the raised fire loading. In it there is an equipment generating heat, numerous cable passages, uninterruptible power supply units, etc. Therefore special requirements are imposed to fire extinguishing substance - it has to be safe for personnel and the equipment, should provide effective suppression of ignition in 10 seconds without stopping of operation of the equipment.

The data processing center of National Library of Russia is protected by automatic system of gas fire extinguishing on the basis of the agent 3М™ Novec™ 1230.

At this gas fire extinguishing substance (GOTV) the highest safety coefficient — 2.38 (threshold limit value 3M of Novec of 1230 — 10%, settlement — 4.2%). It allows to apply it even to protection of premises where the personnel reside: in dispatching offices, equipment rooms, mission control centers, the situational centers, etc.

Boiling temperature of this GOTV with an atmospheric pressure is +49.2 °C therefore it is stored in a type of liquid, but instantly evaporates at release to the premises, without entering chemical reactions. Its use does not cause damage to the equipment energized and to material values.

Automatic installations of fire extinguishing using 3M of Novec 1230 are designed and mounted for objects of communication Rostelecom, IBM, the Center of technology hardware maintenance of communication of MegaFon company in Dmitrov. Protects from the fire 3M Novec1230 and the data processing center of MTS, largest in Siberia, in Novosibirsk, the first in Eastern Europe data center of the Tier III level of DataSpace company.
