On May 31, 2012 Chusovskoy the steel works, one of the oldest enterprises of ferrous metallurgy in the Urals, and IBM corporation announced project completion of migration of a corporate information system of JSC ChMZ on own technology platform based on IBM Power 7. The information system integrates planning processes and accounting in directorates on economy, finance and purchases, directorate on sale and transport logistics, accounting and warehouse divisions of the ChMZ enterprises. As a result of project implementation the processing speed of requests increased in a system almost three times, and waiting time of the user was reduced more than by 8 times, with a simultaneous double growth of requests from users of ChMZ.
Requirement of Chusovsky steel works for an autonomous information system on own technology platform was caused by the need for separation of the IT system of the organization and problem solving with a performance. For achievement of these purposes ChMZ used the hardware-software complex of IBM consisting of two IBM Power 740 servers with the AIX 6.1 operating system, solutions of virtualization on the basis of IBM Power VM, the SAN IBM System Storage SAN40B-4 switch and tape library IBM TS3200 Tape Library Express for backup. Control, management and automation of all system is performed using the solutions IBM Tivoli using storage system of IBM Storwize V7000.
Project implementation with participation of the partner — Aytiterra Groups - took place in two stages. At the first stage, in May-June, 2011, test transfer of a corporate information system using the equipment provided to IBM for the purpose of confirmation of practical feasibility of the project and carrying out technology and stress testing took place. At the second stage, in July-October, 2011, implementation of the investment project took place, the DPC was prepared, installation of equipment is performed, also the application software then data migration took place is set and configured system.
At the enterprise as the standard of a server framework the equipment of IBM is used since 2006. The proposed solution for creation of an autonomous information system when carrying out stress testing showed the good performance level sufficient for ensuring stable work of business divisions even during the periods of peak loads. The solution on virtualization of computing resources allowed to avoid essential finance costs on implementation of the project.
"We managed to perform successfully difficult cross-platform migration of a system without loss of compatibility and operability of applications. Operation of a new technology platform will not involve essential additional costs on upgrade in the nearest future. It is important that at transfer of a system we had not to make changes to the existing business processes. Reliability, performance, availability and quality of technical support of IT infrastructure — those advantages which the plant got after project implementation", - Gushchin Pavel, the head of department on automated control systems for the JSC ChMZ enterprise comments.
In the long term ChMZ is going to increase reliability of the solution at the expense of additional storage system of IBM Storwize V7000 for ensuring fault tolerance and minimization of a downtime in case of failure of main system.
