Renaming of Astana in Nursultan

Such offer right after bringing of the oath was made on March 20, 2019 by the new president of the country Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev. The present capital of Astana in the past carried different names: Akmolinsk, Tselinograd, Akmola[1].

The decision was made on joint sitting of both chambers of the Kazakhstan parliament, reports the zakon.kz portal. According to it the capital of the country will replace the name from Astana on Nursultan, in honor of the first president of the country Nursultan Nazarbayev who resigned the day before.

Deputies voted unanimously. The relevant amendments will be made to the Constitution of the country.

The offer on renaming of Astana which appeared on the map of Kazakhstan as the capital of the country in 1998 in the morning on Wednesday was made by the new president of the republic Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev. Before in 1992-1997 the city was called Akmola, in the 1961-1992nd — Tselinograd, and from the moment of foundation in 1830 — Akmolinsk.

Will lock a beard and black clothes

So the president Nazarbayev disposed. Reason: these "male" attributes do not correspond to Muslim traditions and customs.

The fashion on beards is a consequence of "ignorance of our young people", Nursultan Abishevich considers. It is alien, according to him, to traditions of the Kazakh people. And if so – the issue of prohibition needs to be resolved at the legislative level. The black clothes are appropriate only on days of mourning.

Most important sense of prohibition: Kazakhstan is the secular state. Also it is necessary to get rid of everything not to prevent "the country to be secular and to develop further", - quotes the president of Lenta.ru. Quite strictly the president said: "We will not undergo those who oppose our purpose".

Transition to Latin

Nursultan Nazarbayev charged to the government of the country to translate in the spring of 2017 the alphabet into Latin.

Some consider that this step will allow to facilitate process of integration of the country into world space – 80% of the countries of the world use the latin alphabet. Including – neighbors in the Caspian Sea: Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan. And from the countries of the former USSR – Moldova, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazinform reports.

Others, on the contrary, are perplexed: say, leaving from "Kirill and Mefodiy's alphabet" will alienate more and more Kazakhs from the Russian-speaking world.

The statement of the president does not mean that just tomorrow residents of the country will wake up with the new alphabet. The diagram of transition, uniform standards will be accepted by the end of 2017 – the president of Kazakhstan so disposed. And in 2018 will begin to train teachers of Latin, will be engaged in drawing up school textbooks. And at first will be not to do without Cyrillics[2] in any way[3].

In September, 2017 Nursultan Nazarbayev said that the cyrillic alphabet distorts Kazakh (transfers the Tengrinews.kz portal).

""I" am not in Kazakh "shch", "yu". Using these letters, we distort Kazakh therefore [with introduction of Latin] we come to a basis. This major action. But here hurriedly it is impossible, we will approach gradually and thoughtfully" — Nazarbayev said.

He added that teaching in Latin in the first classes of schools will begin in 2022. "Children will begin to study, I think, it quickly will occur because today all children learn English, and there Latin" — the head of state noted.

In Kazakhstan and also among the Kazakhs living in the republics of the former USSR the Kazakh cyrillic alphabet is used now. Latin is used by some Kazakh diasporas abroad (in particular, in Turkey). In the People's Republic of China and some other countries the Kazakh communities use the Arab letter.

According to in October, 2017 Sputnik Kazakhstan, in the next option prepared by the group of experts is not present digraphs which idea of use was not pleasant to much. But there were apostrophes. Now the alphabet will consist of 32 letters. Difficulties at its formation face because Latin not absolutely is suitable for Kazakh.

In addition to discussion of expediency of transition to Latin and the alphabet, the public of Kazakhstan is interested in economic problems. Concerns people how much transition to the new alphabet will cost to treasury. According to the statement of the director of the republican coordination and methodical center of development of languages of Sh. Shayakhmetova Erbola Tleshova, "on development of the alphabet and for the first time, and in the second of the budget any tiyn was not selected". He noted that members of task force which is engaged in preparation of the alphabet receive the salary in the workplaces. "For the alphabet nobody got an award", - he added.

Let's note that work on the alphabet is still conducted. The final version is not approved yet.
