Content

EMC and Sanofi company completed successful implementation of technology of virtual data storage of EMC VPLEX.

Tasks and solution

As a result of large absorption and steady growth of business Sanofi faced difficulties – it was necessary to cope with territorially separate IT infrastructure in 26 certain regions around the world. Moreover, the staff of Sanofi faced sproblemy data access and exchange of them, and the possibility of easy work with data has crucial value in research, certified and distributor activity of Sanofi.

Implementation of EMC VPLEX is caused by moving of 4 thousand applications to IT infrastructure with centralized operation and to integrate network of 26 data centers in three data processing centers: in the USA, France and Singapore. Having moved the first 200 applications, Sanofi was succeeded to increase flexibility of the DPCs.

Construction of the new IT infrastructure consisting of three data processing centers which are completely connected among themselves and function as a global private cloud, it was complete within half a year. The project was implemented by EMC and Accenture system integrator. The private cloud of Sanofi uses virtualization VMware vSphere, cloud solutions and the integrated storage systems of EMC.

Expectations

This solution will help the company to transform the IT infrastructure a join path of 26 data centers to three data processing centers by migration of 4 thousand applications. These measures will help to increase utilization coefficient, efficiency and flexibility of the IT environment thanks to what easily it will be possible to communicate, get access to it and to move it within one DPC and between centers data processing.

The planned advantages

  • Increase in utilization coefficient - the solution VPLEX allowed Sanofi to increase utilization coefficient of storage systems in certain cases to 30%.

  • Improvement of flexibility - More than 200 applications from 4.000 were already moved to three global data processing centers; at the same time it was succeeded to avoid 24-hour idle times and to accelerate rates of implementation of large-scale plans of Sanofi for consolidation.

  • Expense reduction - Sanofi expects reduction of current expenses after movement of all the 4.000 applications.
