Netgear ReadyDATA

Product
Developers: Netgear
Date of the premiere of the system: May, 2012
Last Release Date: May, 2013
Technology: DWH

On June 12, 2012 the NETGEAR company announced family of the unified NETGEAR ReadyDATA storage systems. ReadyDATA are storage systems of a corporate class which much cheaper and are more easy-to-work, than traditional disk arrays of similar level. New products offer "native" deduplication, dynamic selection of the capacity (thin provisioning) and unlimited number of "instant pictures" and also support the disks SATA, SAS and SSD. ReadyDATA is scaled up to 180 Tbyte (five times more, than the current flagman model) and is the first product of this class in which replication of data is implemented as fixed function.

The ReadyDATA platform implements extremely simple functionality of storage of the first level (tier-1) in use. Users only several mouse clicks can apply dynamic selection of capacity in virtual environment, replicate files and databases on remote platforms and to recover data on "instant pictures" which number is unlimited. ReadyDATA is delivered with the first-ever replication feature managed from a cloud which provides reliable and powerful recovery after accidents without software, servers or a special configuration of network. Now customers and partners are saved from difficult procedures of licensing, need to pay services of specialists in installation and incremental agreements on maintenance and also the frightening prices for traditional "big" IT.

The ReadyDATA systems offer a full range of functionality of storage systems of level of data center:

  • Dynamic selection of capacity, compression and deduplication of data which are stored in a type of blocks (SAN) and files (NAS)
  • Replication of blocks and data files through connection with use of 128-bit enciphering of SSL
  • Unlimited number of "instant pictures" for blocks and data files
  • Scaling up to 60 disks with a general capacity of 180 Tbyte
  • Two ports 10Gb Ethernet and possibility of combination in one system of the disks SATA, SAS and SSD
  • Support of instant expansion of capacity that eliminates costs of time for configuring of RAID
  • Compatibility with the software of backup of Symantec, Acronis, CommVault, StorageCraft, Veeam and Quest
  • Support of the virtual network interface for powerful control functions by network traffic
  • Certification on compatibility with solutions of virtualization of VMware, Microsoft and Citrix

Desktop Netgear ReadyDATA 516 system

Netgear expanded in May, 2013 the line of the unified storage systems of ReadyData which still consisted only of rack dvukhyunitovy model on twelve disks ReadyData 5200. New ReadyData 516 is executed in a desktop form factor and as the producer claims, for the first time allows to apply technologies of storage of a corporate class at offices of the small companies and branches of corporations which have no own DPC.

ReadyData 516 is expected installation of six hot swappable 3.5-inch hard drives SATA by total capacitance up to 24 Tb and as the option supports use of 100-GB SSD, and in one system it is possible to combine hard drives and SSD. In a standard configuration of a new product such technologies of storage systems of a corporate class as dynamic selection of the capacity (thin provisioning), compression and deduplication of data as at the level of blocks (are applied when using a system as a part of network of storage of SAN), and at the level of files (if a system performs functions of the NAS device), support of virtual private networks (VPN). Also for ensuring integrity of data of ReadyData 516, as well as ReadyData 5200, supports creation of unlimited number of 'instant pictures' for the data written on its disks and their remote replication on other ReadyData 516/5200 or in a public cloud (based on Amazon S3 infrastructure), including using 128-bit enciphering of SSL.

ReadyData 516 can also work as storage of backup copies as it is compatible to the known software packages of backup of Symantec, Acronis, CommVault and Veeam, or to service infrastructure of the virtual servers deployed based on technologies of VMware, Microsoft and Citrix.

A system is equipped with the Intel processor Core i3 (Ivy Bridge) of 3.3 GHz, RAM of ECC with a capacity of 16 GB, two network ports Gigabit Ethernet with support of aggregation of channels and switchings of traffic between ports at failure, one port USB 2.0, two ports USB 3.0 and three ports eSATA.

Deliveries of ReadyData 516 will begin at the end of May. In the USA the new product of Netgear in a diskless configuration will cost 2400 dollars, and with 1-Tb hard drives — less than 10 thousand dollars.
