For quality improvement of service of partners and reducing costs for processing and storage of goods, the company management "Gala Center" decided to use the specialized management system of the class WMS developed by specialists of consulting company Columbus on the Microsoft Dynamics AX platform.

Selection process of the partner was long and difficult. Representatives of the company studied possibilities of the WMS solutions presented at the Russian market, held consultations with several leading integrators, organized reference visits, including to three clients of Columbus company. As a result the management of "Gal center" selected the warehouse management system Columbus WMS and in the spring of 2011 of the company announced the beginning of cooperation.

Solution

The logistics director of Gala Center company Mikhail Sartakov tells: "We preferred the Microsoft Dynamics AX platform as the most reliable, the productive, repeatedly checked in practice solution. And complex approach of Columbus to solving of tasks of warehouse logistics, examination of specialists of the company and large projects in the field of retail and distribution defined our choice of the partner. We visited several warehouses of clients of consulting company Columbus, communicated to project managers, and we had a confidence that the project will be implemented in accuracy with our tasks".

As the experimental ground on which tested and optimized the management system for key business processes of a complex developed by a project team of Columbus taking into account industry specifics "Gala Center", the warehouse of the distributor in Novosibirsk was used. The warehouse "Gala Center" in Novosibirsk about 6000 square meters is equipped with the 7th level racks of pallet storage with a lift-over height of 8 m and two mezzanines of shelf storage – two - and four-storeyed. The total quantity of storage locations contains 9400 cells. A main type of products – nonfoods of broad consumption (plumbing fixtures, haberdashery, accessories, tools, household goods, ware and kitchen accessories). Besides, different promotional materials and additional seasonal commodity groups are stored in a warehouse in "Gala Center" in Novosibirsk: in the spring - for sport and leisure, in the fall - New Year's goods.

Results

At the moment the quantity of the processed nomenclature units of production in this warehouse Gala Center complex in Novosibirsk is 8000-8200 SKU daily. The most part of goods is placed in standard europallets, for boxed storage mezzanines are used. Deliveries are performed daily, the quantity accepted a pallet is to 340 units a day, the number of shipments – to the 355th a pallet.

In the conditions of the insufficient number of the free areas in the Novosibirsk warehouse "Gala Center" multiarticle storage and processing was actively used that required more flexible configuration of the corresponding algorithms of placement of goods in a warehouse system. The solution of the class WMS allowed to solve all above-mentioned problems of the distributor.
