President of Romania
since 2004 the post of the president of Romania is held by Traian Basescu.
In 2007 the parliament tried to discharge it of a position, however then on a referendum about 75 percent of residents of the country supported Basescu, and his resignation as a result did not take place.
The acute political crisis caused by discontent among the population with policy of reduction of budgeted expenses and the low level of life in the country began with spring of 2012 in Romania. Since the beginning of 2012 two cabinets were dismissed, and in April the government was headed by Victor Pontus from oppositional Social Democratic Party.
The political instability, in addition, led to transition of a pro-presidential Democratic and liberal batch to the oppositional camp. Thus, Basescu actually appeared in opposition and to parliamentary majority, and to the government.
On July 6, 2012 the Parliament of Romania voted for an impeachment to the president of the country Traian Basescu. 258 parliamentarians from 432 supported discharge of the president from a position. According to the Romanian legislation that Basescu left the post, the decision of parliament should be supported by most of citizens of the country on a referendum which will take place on July 29, 2012. Till this time the speaker of the Senate of Romania Crean Antonesku will fulfill duties of the head of state.
The coalition of socialists and liberals having the majority in parliament became the initiator of discharge of Basescu from a position. Deputies, in particular, accused the president of violation of the constitution and to preventing to normal work of the government[1].
