Cisco VX Tactical

The Tandberg Tactical MXP system which the Russian journalists nicknamed "a black small suitcase of the president" was a predecessor of Cisco VX Tactical. It was laid off in 2010, and since then solutions of a similar class in the market did not appear. And here in the spring of 2012 there was a long-awaited event: the Cisco company provided the TelePresence VX Tactical video system.

The improved characteristics

Cisco VX Tactical is intended for rescue services, military units, the oil and gas and construction enterprises working in field conditions. A system represents the mobile device which is well protected from aggressive influence of the environment for video negotiations in a field situation. She allows to carry out video conferences for four participants irrespective of their location without use of the server. Everything that is necessary, – existence of a communication channel.

The tough Cisco VX Tactical body is executed of plastic with a corrosion-proof aluminum external frame. It is shock-resistant and impenetrable for water, sand and chemicals. Devices of this type function everywhere where it is possible to organize Internet connection on channels IP, Wi-fi, 3G, 4G or by satellite communication, including in army cars and tanks, in fire trucks and on oil platforms.

In comparison with Tandberg Tactical MXP the Cisco VX Tactical system has a number of advantages, including more compact size (49 x 18.5 x 38.5 cm, i.e. are 25% less than former "small suitcase"), the smaller weight, more powerful codec (SX20 series instead of MX), the increased screen (17.5 inches instead of 15) which became besides is three times stronger, the built-in video camera with support of the Full HD 1080r 60 mode, a binaural sound and the simplified user interface with the touchpad and the remote control.

Cisco VX Tactical supports connection of external screens of high resolution that allows to use if necessary screens of the big sizes and to make information available to numerous audience (for example, to carry out remote instructing for large divisions or groups of rapid response). Someone will tell that he is capable to transfer and accept video even the cell phone now, and will be right. And here to process several video flows at the same time, to switch them and to provide the transmission quality of the image, maximum for today's level of technical development (up to the Full HD 1080p 60 video mode) and a broadband binaural sound only the few devices can. Besides, the Cisco VX Tactical system allows to transfer about video and other types of data, for example, dynamic information from different devices or sensors that is important at decision making in the oil and gas industry or when carrying out medical consultations.

Successful practice of use of the predecessor of Cisco VX Tactical in Russia and growth of popularity of a video conferencing (VIDEOCONFERENCING) allow to predict that the new portable solution capable to replace the whole situational center will be in demand.

If to address the history of application of the Tactical system in Russia / CIS, then the first it was estimated and began to be used for problem solving, requiring immediate reaction, government institutions. First of all it is about the office of the Russian President, Emercom of Russia, executive authorities of the subjects of the Russian Federation.

So, at the end of 2010 creation of a complex for city service of a video conferencing of St. Petersburg was complete that allowed to bring a management system for state structures to qualitatively new level. The complex consists of the server part which is in the situational center in Smolny and the terminals of video conference installed in offices of the governor and vice governors in administrations of districts of the city and also in the Municipal Department of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Emergency Situations of St. Petersburg. Several mobile systems of Tandberg Tactical MXP became indivisible element of equipment of the situational center of the Northern Capital.

Other example speaking about high level of confidence to a system – use since 2009 Tandberg Tactical MXP at the organization of sessions of video conference from places of landing of crews of the International Space Station. Such sessions will be organized for the purpose of operational informing the management of Roskosmos, Energiya Rocket and space corporation, specialists of TsUPa in the city to the Queen about the course of carrying out search and rescue transactions and also about a status of astronauts and the systems of the spaceship after flight.

Due to the geographical features of our country (long distances between localities and elongation on time zones) mobile VKS based on the Tactical system is actively applied also in telemedicine, in particular, in the Salekhard district clinical hospital servicing all territory of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Area. There implementation of Cisco TelePresence technology paid off due to closing of only one helicopter run (before specialists of hospital made more than 2 thousand such departures a year).

Other member countries of the CIS also estimated advantages of the Tactical system. For example, the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Kazakhstan, using "video small suitcase", achieved increase in effective management of regional commands. Thanks to Tactical the highest command structure instantly receives a video information during the exercises and trainings that considerably accelerates adoption of important solutions.

Important and another: the Cisco Tactical VX system – the successor of Tandberg Tactical MXP, but not its processed version. It is absolutely new product constructed based on the most up-to-date Cisco SX20 codec. Before emergence of SX20 of so productive and compact platform for creation of the similar device just did not exist.

Potential customers of the portable video centers Cisco VX Tactical – and graduating from the organizations creating mobile teams and mobile complexes since news commands of television channels special operational and telemedicine services, road laboratories, etc.

The new video system has such properties inherent in all solutions of Cisco as reliability and security which in most cases are the main requirements of customers, in particular state companies and structures. At this Cisco VX Tactical it is ready to work practically at any data transfer rates that is especially relevant for Russia: in many regions of the country the fixed communication channels are absent in principle, and it is necessary to use satellite resources. This video system created especially for the situations requiring immediate reaction differs in shock resistance and maintains high temperature loads.
