The provider of cloud services Parking.ru upgrades the platform of DPC

The Parking.ru company constructed data center and selected a cloud platform of Microsoft based on System Center and Hyper-V.

Objectives

Further business development of Parking.ru company demanded to construct data center which would allow to provide infrastructure and application services for all potential clients of the company, irrespective of the size and the sphere of their business. The main objective of Parking.ru was in making open service which any client could use, having ordered virtual machines literally one "click".

The feature of such model of business is that the clients of Parking.ru renting virtual machines use them in operating environment both Linux, and Windows. Therefore support of different types and versions of operating systems became the main requirement when choosing a cloud platform.

A choice was made for benefit of data center based on Microsoft Hyper-V hypervisor.

"The Microsoft platform suited us both on price policy, and on the provided advantages, such as possibility of deep integration of products, convenience of management, scalability, speed and simplicity of deployment. An opportunity to provide to clients virtual machines running different operating systems became one of key factors at decision-making for us", – Sergey Lisitsyn, the Head of Department of marketing and business communications, Parking.ru explained.

Project solution

The project originated in June, 2010. Implementation of the platform went about three months from the moment of obtaining the source code and before testing.

The project began with inspection of a hardware platform for implementation. Then the Microsoft Dynamic Data Center system – a product which is a part of Windows Server 2008 was implemented and includes Microsoft Hyper-V hypervisor. In parallel on the basis of Hyper-V internal interfaces of open infrastructure cloud services of Slidebar were developed for providing virtual machines to clients on Linux and Windows. And at the last stage specialists of Parking.ru carried out a full integration with external interfaces, the system of billing and deployment.

Results

Services of the company on the Microsoft Hyper-V platform quickly purchased popularity, today about 2 thousand clients use them at the same time: 60% from them use service of virtual machines running OS Linux, 40% – running Windows. The data center allows to perform monitoring both Linux virtual machines, and Windows. For Windows conventional components are provided, and for Linux only some components of integration are now used.

"After implementation in operation of data center of Microsoft Hyper-V the customer base began to accrue very quickly. It immediately affected business results: now cloud services provide about 30% of revenue in the retail direction", – Sergey Lisitsyn emphasized.
