Investgazavtomatika, Gazpromavtomatika subsidiary company, passed with one of the first to the new Windows Server 2012 server platform, journalists were reported about it on September 26, 2012 by the head of information technology Investgazavtomatika Dmitry Starostov.
According to him, the company made transition to the new platform from Windows Server 2008. "The project passed within upgrade and for internal needs of our company. But further we are going to transfer the remote structural divisions to the platform", - Starostov told.
Main objectives
At making decision on transition to Windows Server 2012 Investgazavtomatika "closed" issues of increase in efficiency of IT department both for internal needs, and for project implementation for parent company and big Gazprom. And also expense reduction on infrastructure.
Project Progress
According to Dmitry Starostov, the company began a pilot project in May, 2012. "We came to an end of September to the fact that are ready to pass to commercial operation of all system", - it continued.
Dmitry Starostov explained the choice of this system to the correspondent of TAdviser with lack of complaints on the previous version and also unwillingness of the company to part "zoo" in IT department. One does not swap horses while crossing the ford, - he said.
By Windows Server 2012 it was set in all three DPCs of the company internal to Investgazavtomatiki's forces.
Result
Dmitry Starostov noted that he after implementation of the Windows Server 2012 IT department "ceased to ask additional resources for development". "Our economy made about a third of all budget selected to us. And it was visible at once", - he continued.
In addition to explicit economy, he noted growth of density of number of virtual machines per one host by 5 times. "If earlier density was 4 machines per host, then now we are going to approach 20 virtual machines", - Starostov concluded.
The third result, according to Starostov, are new opportunities of virtualization: "We can flexibly select and configure required architecture of networks. It eliminates need of reconfiguration of network configurations and isolates services of certain internal consumers", - he told.
"In addition, the Hyper-V Replica technology allowed us to solve a problem of ensuring operability of services and data availability for all organization even at shutdown of one of DPCs. I would like to pay special attention that this technology did not demand from us purchase of additional software", - Starostov concluded.

By the words of Svetlana Likhareva, the Head of Department of server products of Microsoft comprehensive helps with Russia, now Microsoft to the clients. In particular, so far transition to Windows Server 2012 was performed free of charge.
