The Ministry of Education of the Penza region implements technologies of virtualization in educational process

The Pilot company plus completed the project of delivery of the server hardware of initial level and system implementation of virtualization on the Microsoft Hyper-V platform at 583 schools of the Penza region by request of the Ministry of Education of the Penza region, reported a corporate resource of vendor on October 29, 2012.

Objectives

In quality the file servers at schools of the Penza region outdated desktop computers were used. These PCs often failed therefore lessons of information science and other objects which required use of IT or Internet access were cancelled.

Resolving issues of informatization of schools, the management of the Ministry of Education of the Penza region made the decision on installation in schools of powerful modern servers with the standardized configuration on which it is possible not only to store files, but also to start the applications providing educational processes.

During the project of upgrade of IT infrastructure of area these computers are replaced with the servers of initial level virtualized for more productive and stable work with use of Microsoft Hyper-V.

Project

Set Lotsman plus system integrator at 583 schools of area on one server of initial level equipped with the quad-core processor, OZU of 8 GB, a disk with a capacity of 500 GB.

Providing simultaneous start of several applications and also mutual protection of applications against failures, IT specialists of Lotsman Plus suggested to use virtualization. As the solution technologies were considered Citrix Xen, VMWare ESXi and Microsoft Hyper-V. As a result the Ministry of Education selected a product of Microsoft as the rights to its use are granted free of charge together with the license for the operating system Windows Server 2008 R2.

Level is higher

In DPC of the Ministry of Education the uniform domain structure for all organizations is created. From DPC using a set of management tools the information systems Microsoft System Center by specialists of Lotsman Plus the centralized remote monitoring and control of all 583 servers and school networks is exercised.

"At the first stage of work some time for training of specialists of schools of operation of the new server hardware was required, but now everything it is controlled with the help of single solution of Microsoft System Center Operations Manager and practically does not require intervention from technical support specialists except as specified of serious machine failures", – Oleg Anisimov, the associate director of Lotsman Plus company noted.

Advantages

The project is implemented within October-December, 2011. As a result for all schools of area the homogeneous information structure is created and centralized operation by the 583rd virtualized servers from a data processing center is organized.
