CBS completed a project to introduce IP telephony at ProCommerce Bank's office based on the new Cisco Unified Communications Manager Business Edition 3000 (Cisco BE 3000) station, the integrator's press service said on November 2, 2012.
Basis
Earlier, ProCommerce Bank rented a virtual exchange from a local provider, where it encountered, according to the customer, "permanent technical default and long delays in fulfilling applications." The transition to its own IP telephony gave the bank the opportunity to independently manage the system settings and number plan, which, along with the benefits of unified communication technologies, raised the efficiency of corporate communications to a much higher level.
Purposes
The business task of the customer is to reduce the cost of communication services by introducing a high-quality and reliable IP-telephony exchange with minimal investment and ensure a gradual transition from traditional telephony to combined communications with the preservation of part of the telephone numbers.
Decision
The best solution, according to CBS engineers, is to install the Cisco BE 3000 IP PBX in conjunction with a voice gateway based on the Cisco ISR 2901 router.
"Since the station went on sale only this year and is an atypical product Cisco due to its focus on small businesses, there was a chance that not all of its functions would work correctly. But the extensive experience of our engineers and the extremely low cost of the station became the decisive arguments for the customer in favor of this very solution. Moreover, the Cisco BE 3000 software core is borrowed from the full-fledged Communication Manager, the flagship of the Cisco line of devices for unified communications, which ensures that the Cisco BE 3000 user constantly updates the platform and adds new features, "said CBS Technical Director IP-PBX. Sergey Kalashnikov
As the main telephone channel, CBS engineers configured the SIP trunk from Cisco equipment to SIP provider equipment, and used 4 analog public telephone network lines connected to the Cisco ISR router 2901 through the VIC2-4FXO module as a backup channel, including to support old numbers. Analog faxes were connected through the FXS interface, respectively. A better solution would be to use the Cisco SPA8800 Analog Media Gateway instead of the FXO/FXS VIC modules. However, the previous version of the Cisco BE 3000 did not include the ability to route calls to several gateways, and the new version 8.6.4 appeared after the project was completed.
"As a result of the introduction of telephony based on the Cisco BE 3000 IP station using analog FXO/FXS gateways and the Cisco ISR 2901 router, we have received a modern hybrid communication system with minimal investments, which fully meets our requirements for functionality, ease of use and expansion capabilities," summed up Alexander Kovtun, chief specialist of the information technology department of ProCommerce Bank.
