In November, 2012 Novell announced an exit of Dynamic file services (Novell Dynamic File Services). This technology gives the chance to manage automatically data at the level of separate files, including an opportunity to archive data at cloud providers on data storage, such as Amazon S3, Box, CloudMe and Dropbox. Confirms with a release of this solution Novell the status to the company leading in providing with tools on file management, access to them and printing.

"An exit of Novell Dynamic File Services is an answer to the escalating need for management of a huge number of the unstructured data created at the enterprise", - Eric Varness, the vice president for products and marketing in Novell company says. "The companies continue to work with the separated files and, using Novell today, users can control work with them completely. Novell Dynamic File Services supplements the existing infrastructure and helps IT department to provide more effective use of file systems, at the same time without reducing performance level".

Growth of volume of unstructured data does not give in to forecasting that in turn leads to uncontrollable growth of extension expenses of storage systems. Novell Dynamic File Services solves this problem, optimizing use of the available hardware resources, at the same time saving initial investments and changing nothing in work of end users.

Novell Dynamic File Services allows to implement policy of file management, defining who when and as will organize their storage. Separate programs, are started on servers in background, invisible to users, the mode and work with files without changing workflow.

Main characteristics of Novell Dynamic File Services:

  • Archiving of data in "cloud" storage: the companies can archive data on Amazon S3, Box, CloudMe or Dropbox, using the intelligent mechanism the politician for determination of unstructured data (the files and folders) placed on network resources of Microsoft. Besides, storage systems of the leading manufacturers, such as Dell, EMC, HP or NetApp are supported.
  • Increase in volume of storage taking into account outdated data: with Dynamic File Services of the company can implement policy of storage of crucial data on more reliable devices, and to transfer less important data to less expensive DWH and to cut down expenses at the expense of the organization of multilevel data storage.
  • Viewing transactions of archiving through web the interface: administrators of IT department can trace a status of files and if necessary stop archiving. At the same time they can be sure that all actions are monitored and there is an opportunity to book audit at any time.
  • Reminders on events: administrators can plan delivery of notifications through Twitter or by e-mail, for viewing a status of the archived data which are in a cloud. The administrator can set reminders on events that through web the interface it was possible to recover files or to delete outdated data.
