The building Oracle StorageTek SL8500 library block system is intended for backup and archiving of data as it is mainframe, and servers of open systems.
The platform can be used together with the software of Oracle Secure Backup and Oracle Recovery Manager 11g and also to integrate for the organization of backup with database machines of the Oracle Exadata family.
The technology allows creation of a cluster from ten libraries, control of which will be exercised as the uniform library integrating 100 thousand devices. Thanks to increase in density of placement of data on the new drive the efficiency of use of tape cartridges and space of premises increases.
Tape drives with a capacity of cartridge at 5 TB of uncompressed data - T10000C with which library complexes can be completed exceed on the capacity of any of the tape drives sold now by the company three times. Representatives of Oracle claim: the new streamer exceeds as well all similar devices from all modern producers.
Writing rate of the equipment of library grew from 150 to 240 Megabytes per second. At new characteristics of a streamer, SL8500 library will be able "to pack" more than 500 TB within an hour.
According to the approval of the guide of department of tape drives of Oracle if to set new streamers in tape library (Modular Library System) StorageTek SL8500, its general capacity can be brought to 500 PB and as data compression technologies allow to double practically the capacity of cartridges, the general capacity of library can be about 1 EB.
