On October 27, 2023, SiSoft Development announced the release of an updated version of the engineering analysis system (CAE) of PoligonSoft foundry processes.

According to the company, PoligonSoft 2023.0 includes additional solvers, an updated version of the grid generator, a data preparation module with a different interface, and an updated macrostructure solver.

Users will receive a "Master" preprocessor with additional editors, tools and a tape interface. The updated program architecture continues to replace the old code, and the modules that have lost their relevance are replaced with others. In particular, PoligonSoft 2023.0 replaced the outdated mold material editor, completely redesigned and expanded the base of materials and casting alloys. The characteristics of all materials are now edited in a single Material Properties editor, which has also undergone significant changes.

The updated version adds a tempering model and calculates yield strength and elongation after heat treatment.

As part of PoligonSoft 2023.0, the Macrostructure solver was released with a model of heterogeneous seed of grains both on the surface of the mold and in the melt volume. This solver is useful for modeling the formation of a macrostructure of metal alloys that have a solid-state volume-centered or face-centered cubic lattice. This is the first 2D version of the module to calculate grain sizes and orientation in a selected casting section based on 3D temperature fields.

The version 2022 of the engineering analysis system of foundry processes "PolygonSoft" is released. This was announced on September 15, 2022 by the developer CSoft. The solvers, functions and tools implemented in it will allow foundry engineers to create the best foundry technologies and significantly improve the quality of castings.

The updated version of the PolygonSoft 2022 LP Criminal Police Services has passed the testing stage, and its distribution to users on technical support will begin in September. This release has undergone fundamental changes in almost all key modules, in addition, it implements a steel heat treatment solver.

The implemented version of the grid generator with improved validation and editing algorithms allows you to improve the quality of both the grid and calculations.

Solver Thermal treatment is designed to predict the structure and mechanical properties of structural and low-alloy steels after undergoing thermal treatment: quenching, normalization or annealing.

The calculation requires the chemical composition of steel and the heat treatment mode. Modeling of structure and properties is carried out on the basis of temperature fields calculated in the Fourier thermal solver according to the specified mode. All old solvers are excluded from this version, as well as the model preparation module for calculating the radiation heat exchange "Tracing." All of them are completely replaced by other, more accurate and faster, solvers, which were gradually implemented over the course of several previous releases.

Starting from version 2021.0, work begins on replacing the editors of the Alloy module with more current and functional ones. At the request of users, the modernization began with the two most used ones - the heat transfer parameter editor and the set temperature editor. When casting in vacuum, the effects of reflection and absorption of energy by bodies must be properly taken into account. The updated Routing module is enabled by the Radiation Heat Exchange option and automatically prepares the geometry for calculation. In this version, the developers were able to once again significantly improve data processing, which is especially noticeable on large models.

An elastic-plastic model of the behavior of the shape during contact with the casting has been added to the Hook solver. At the same time, a model for predicting hot cracks during shaped casting was added. Previously, the probability of their formation was estimated by plastic deformations, which generally corresponds to reality, but recently situations have begun to arise when this method was not enough. Focusing on the wishes of users, the developers have created a special model that calculates the tendency to hot cracks based on an analysis of the level of plastic deformations and the nature of solidification of the casting.

The tool for checking and automatically improving the quality of the stack, developed and implemented in the previous version, has been significantly redesigned and improved. Added validation criteria - along the length of the edge of the element - too small elements are removed and replaced with larger ones.

Other important updates include the ability to restore and continue the interrupted calculation, fix and improve the functionality of the "Master" and "Mirage" modules.

The updated system architecture continues to replace the old code, and modules that have become irrelevant are replaced or deleted. The system passed all the main stages of testing at the end of 2020 and is available to users for February 2021.

The updates affected both user interfaces and mathematical models.

  • An additional tool has been implemented in the grid generator.
  • The Master preprocessor now remembers the last task the technologist was working on and offers to import all settings into the new grid model of the foundry.
  • A modified "Master of building ceramic forms and thermal insulation shells" appeared.
  • The version of the Euler current solver has been updated.
  • The Save Calculation Time option will help you optimize the dimensions of the calculated area.
  • Pause before stopping the flow calculation will be very useful in modeling the casting of large ingots.

  • In Criminal Police Service LP PolygonSoft, support for direct calculation methods in the Fourier solver has been discontinued.
  • The Optima module, which was used to prepare the model for calculation by direct method, was excluded from the PolygonSoft LP Criminal Police Service.
  • The Slide module is outdated and excluded from the PolygonSoft LP Criminal Police Service.

Other important changes include the ability to calculate stresses in the mold in the Guk solver, an updated model of porosity and radiation heat exchange in the Fourier solver, and other post-processor capabilities.

For this, all three solvers of the PolygonSoft Criminal Police Service LP were redesigned. This especially affected the current solver, which was actually created from scratch. The updated melt flow model allows you to evaluate the filling process at a completely different, higher stage. The user sets the level of detail of the calculation and selects a balance between speed and rendering quality.

In the updated version of Criminal Police Service LP "PolygonSoft" 2019.5, users will find an Euler flow solver with faster, stable algorithms and an updated heat transfer model at the casting-form boundary. In the preprocessor, the Melt Supply tool appeared for flexible and convenient assignment of mold filling conditions with the possibility of topping up to different elements of the gate-feeding system.

The developer also noted the changes that affected the shell generation algorithm, which is usually used to create a ceramic mold model for casting on melted models. In Criminal Police Service LP "PolygonSoft" 2019.5, another version of the grid generator is used with implemented functions for correcting "bad elements," which allows you to reduce or completely exclude their appearance.

Starting from the presented version of Criminal Police Service LP "PolygonSoft," there have been changes in the licensing policy. All system configurations will be multi-core and have the xCore prefix in the name. This means that all cores of the processor installed on the PC will be available for calculation. At the same time, the licensing of algorithms for generating the properties of casting alloys in the Alloy module was canceled. Thus, users updating their single-core, dual-core, etc. configurations of Criminal Police Service LP "PolygonSoft" will receive instead a multi-core version and a license for the "Alloy" module without additional surcharges.

2015: PolygonSoft 15.0 released

On June 16, 2015, CSoft published a version of the engineering analysis system for foundry technologies PolygonSoft 15.0[1]

It has expanded the functionality of some modules, updated algorithms, replenished databases of casting materials and shapes.

In the main solver of the PolygonSoft system - the Fourier-3D module, the macro and microporosity model has been improved for use with the centrifugal casting option and an arbitrary axis of rotation.

The most serious changes were made in the module for calculating the stress state of the Guk-3D casting. In this version of the solver, a "stabilized" version of the Newton method was created, which allows you to more accurately process the contact of the casting with the mold. At the same time, the developers significantly reduced the calculation time by including an algorithm that helps reduce the number of iterations of the Newton method in the first steps of the calculation. The possibility of calculating the VAT after removing the form (knocking out, disassembling the coke) and removing the elements of the gate-feeding system has been added.

An updated Mirage-3D post-processor with a model tree that controls the visualization of casting and mold elements significantly improves the effectiveness of the analysis of results.

2014: PolygonSoft 14.0

On June 18, 2014, CSoft announced the release of a new version of the solution for the development and analysis of metal casting technologies.

The changes affected all modules of the system:

  • updated interfaces,
  • added new algorithms and models,
  • increased performance of some modules,
  • The material database has been expanded.

The module for preparing the geometric model "Master-3D" received, among other things, the ability to read finite element models built in the generator CAD system, and NX more flexible algorithms for analyzing and improving the quality of the grid.

Significant changes in all computers of the system. The main module - the Fourier-3D processor - introduced a new model of centrifugal casting with an arbitrary axis of rotation. The module algorithms have been modified to simulate the operation of exothermic inserts. The new shrinkage shell and macroporosity model implemented in the previous version has been redesigned, refined and supplemented with a new microporosity model.

In the new version of the module for calculating the stress state of the Guk-3D casting, an algorithm for the contact interaction of the casting with the mold is implemented. This makes it possible to take into account the difficult shrinkage when analyzing the stress-strain state of the casting. The shape is taken into account in the calculation as an absolutely rigid body.

2013: Version 13.4

This version implements a number of ideas aimed at improving and simplifying the modeling of the continuous casting process. A new Hook-3D module has been added to calculate stresses and strains in the casting.

The changes affected almost all modules of the system: the interfaces were updated, new algorithms and models were added, the performance of some modules was increased, the materials database was expanded.

The module for preparing the geometric model "Master-3D" has undergone significant changes, which received in the new version, among other things, a convenient model tree and an improved file loading interface with the ability to read finite element models built in the CATIA V5 CAD system generator.

Significant changes have occurred in all three solvers of the system. So, the Euler-3D module now has a 64-bit version, which is automatically used in MS Windows x64. The solver implements new interface functions that allow you to run source data editors and a post-processor with calculation results directly from the module shell.

The main module of the system - the Fourier-3D processor - introduced a new model of shrinkage shell formation and macroporosity, based on an improved method for step-by-step determination of the shape of the shrinkage shell, taking into account the capillary effect and pressure drop during crystallization of thermal nodes. The new model has been added for use in test mode and can be launched instead of the traditional MACRO model.
