The cloud storage of data of Redshift advertized as less expensive alternative to local implementations was added to number of offers of Amazon Web Services at the beginning of 2013. Amazon says that Redshift much cheaper, than traditional data warehouses, and supports no-touch deployment and administration.

The user using AWS Management Console or API Redshift can connect storage on 2 Tbyte or the cluster containing up to 16 nodes on 2 Tbyte or 16 Tbyte. The Menshshy node, XL, has 15 Gbytes of RAM, bigger, 8XL, 120 Gbytes. Quotations begin from 0.85 dollars/hour for XL and from 6.8 dollars/hour for 8XL. At preliminary reservation of copies rates decrease to 0.228 dollars/hour (less than 1000 dollars for terabyte a year).

The saved data automatically are replicated on other nodes of a cluster and continuous backup in Amazon S3 is executed. For transmission security the SSL protocol, for storage — AES-256 is used. It is possible to connect Redshift to the corporate data-center using a VPN tunnel.

Data can be loaded by means of AWS Direct Connect directly from DPC or to transfer on portable drives (option AWS Import/Export). Besides, Redshift can import data from Amazon S3 and Dynamo DB services through AWS Data Pipeline.
