SmartPhoneLink

In February, 2013 the Luxoft company entering into IBS Group announced the joint project with Ford corporation under the name SmartPhoneLink on development of technology of connection of the head systems of the car to mobile devices. The open source code available to free downloading will become distinctive feature of the new standard completely. SmartPhoneLink will combine possibilities of the AppLink platform from Ford corporation and the project open source of iviLink and also solutions of other organizations which will wish to make the contribution to development of the new standard.

"For two years the Luxoft company works on creation of open industry standards in the field of consolidation of functions of the automobile systems and mobile devices, – Vasily Suvorov, the vice president of Luxoft for technology strategy said. – Fragmentation of technologies which we observe in the market now slows down development of solutions in this sphere and limits opportunities for innovations which application developers can introduce. We consider that the decision on discovery of AppLink technology of Ford corporation for community of developers is an important step to creation of the uniform standard. Specialists of Luxoft and Ford will work jointly on integration of basic functions of iviLink technology into SmartPhoneLink and also will take active part in an output of the new platform to international market of car makers".

The iviLink technology was open source developed for creating applications which can safely interact with the automobile head systems. The architecture of iviLink is developed based on profiles that allows producers of the multimedia systems of the car to receive full control over all functions. iviLink works on the most popular communication channels, support of the Wi-fi and Bluetooth protocols is implemented at present. However the platform can be easily expanded for use of any other protocol which supports serial data transmission (for example USB or CAN). Thus, iviLink provides work with the broadest spectrum of head and mobile devices.

The alliance GENIVI is the leader in creation of the automobile platform at present open source which then can be used as a basis for development of systems, specific to the customer. Luxoft is one of active participants of alliance and also heads work on creation of the standard for connection of external client devices to the car. With the assistance of other members of GENIVI, developers of the company work on creation of the Smart Device Connectivity component which combines possibilities of iviLink technology and other similar technologies. Such standard will open a new era of development of the automobile multimedia systems that will allow to turn them from monolithic and incapable of expansion into systems which will change perception of the car both for the driver, and for passengers.

In a work progress entering into iviLink of such important and unique features as symmetric interaction of applications and also concepts of the updated profiles is necessary. After the new standard is finally approved, the Luxoft company is going to continue work on development of new applications based on SmartPhoneLink that will give to users even more opportunities for development.
