In March, 2013 the Oracle corporation announced regeneration of lines of servers of average and high performance. The announcement was made by the head of the company Larry Ellison on an action in Redvud-City. The updated lineup included a blade server of SPARC T5-1B, the rack SPARC T5-2, SPARC T5-4 and SPARC T5-8 servers and the server of the mainframe class SPARC M5-32.

New line

The blade server of SPARC T5-1B offers the doubled number of main cores in comparison with servers of the previous generation and processing to 128 flows of commands at the same time. Performance in comparison with servers of the previous generation increased by 2.3 times.

The 2-socket SPARC T5-2 server is executed in a form factor 3U and offers 32 computing cores and 512 GB of a system memory. Performance increased also by 2.3 times. The SPARC T5-4 model 5U contains four processors and support up to 2 TB RAM in a form factor. The SPARC T5-8 model 8U contains eight processors (128 computing cores) and support up to 4 TB RAM in a form factor. It is the fastest server in a line of Oracle for start of database management systems.

SPARC T5-2

All servers of a line SPARC T5 are based on the 16-core SPARC T5 processor which in Oracle was called "the fastest microprocessor in the world". "When Oracle purchased Sun, many people thought that the SPARC microprocessor is a turtle and will never catch up with competitors. With the new chip we not only caught up with competitors, but also overtook them", - Ellison said.

SPARC T5-8

According to the official statement, servers of a line SPARC T5 set 17 world records. The SPARC M5-32 server offers to 10 times higher performance in comparison with the previous generation. It contains 32 processor connectors and maintains 32 TB RAM. The model is based on the 6-core SPARC M5 processor. SPARC M5-32 is the most powerful server ever created by Oracle, emphasized in the company.

All new servers work running the Oracle Solaris operating system. They are intended for start of DBMS and the corporate software at the enterprises of any scale and offer the maximum level of availability, ready to work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. By means of this updating of Oracle is going to strengthen hardware business in which it went in 2010 by acquisition beyond $7.4 billion the producer of servers of SUN Microsystems.

Head of Oracle: clients of IBM overpay for servers

Oracle did not manage to present a new server line of SPARK T5 and M8 in March, 2013 as only several days later known for the love to scandalous attacks to competitors top managers of corporation fell with criticism upon IBM, having stated that server clients of competitors waste the money.

Everything began with the fact that for the presentation of a new server line the head of Oracle Larry Ellison said literally the following:

"According to some tests, M5 is 8 times faster, than IBM 795, and costs 80% less". "You can use faster solution, but only if are ready to pay 80% less", - he venomously joked.

Also he noted that the new T5 server is 9 times more productive, than IBM P780. This statistics is published also on the [1]

The comparison of servers of Oracle and IBM published on the website oracle.com

Commenting on this attack to the edition Business Insider, John John Fowler, the vice president of Oracle, also added:

"Clients of IBM significantly overpay for the capacity of servers".

It is interesting that Oracle was succeeded to involve IBM in this marketing skirmish. The representative of Blue giant Steve Sibley officially [2] that Oracle juggles with the facts.

According to him, tests of Oracle do not maintain criticism as the last products of corporation are compared to the servers of IBM which entered the market five years ago and even more. Besides, allegedly the corporation in tests obviously uses such servers in which the quantity of computing cores exceeds number of cores in products of IBM twice more.

Also Sibli noted that Ellison compares T58 worth $270 thousand to IBM P780 worth $1.9 million, but such comparison, he considers, it is not absolutely correct as IBM has machines of a configuration, more suitable to comparison, which stand approximately also, as well as products of Oracle.
