Oracle in-memory

Product
Developers: Oracle
Last Release Date: September, 2013

Content

In April, 2013 it became known that Oracle is going to release a series of the software applications using calculations in RAM (in-memory computing) that will become the response to actions of the main competitor of corporation, SAP which already quite seriously promoted in this perspective market.

The press secretary of Oracle said that the first three applications from among new products will appear in the market in May, 2013, among them:

Further the release is planned:

All specified products will work based on the server systems of Oracle, including Exalogic. The new version of Exadata appeared in 2012, and the corporation stated earlier that it will support work in the in-memory mode of any DBMS.The Exalytics system which entered the market in 2011 initially supports calculations in RAM and is expected use in analytical solutions. The specified applications, promise in Oracle, due to use operational, flash of memory and other features will be 20 times more productive than standard.

Certainly, activation of Oracle in the in-memory market of calculations is the reply of SAP, is more specific – in-memory SAP HANA DBMS which SAP positions as the most quickly growing product for all history of the company. The German vendor hopes that the popularity of HANA will gradually eclipse Oracle DBMS, and clients of the last migrate on HANA where as hardware base components of different vendors are used.

Oracle In-Memory Cost Management для Oracle E-Business Suite

The Oracle corporation announced in September, 2013 release in sale of new Oracle application of In-Memory Cost Management of a line of Oracle In-Memory Applications for the Oracle E-Business Suite complex designed to transform approach to cost management in the companies.

According to developers, new Oracle application of In-Memory Cost Management expands possibilities of existing solutions of Oracle for cost management and allows the organizations to browse, analyze and visualize the impact of changes of corporate expenses quickly. Users can execute difficult modeling of statistical data about costs by a method now "that if" (what-if) and to visualize influence of these indicators on a status of inventory stocks and profit margins. It allows the organizations to raise profit and a gross margin and also to improve the cost accounting of products at the expense of cost optimization on component parts, claim in corporation.

Oracle application of In-Memory Cost Management is fully used by performance of the optimized hardware and software systems Oracle Engineered Systems, including Oracle Exadata Database Machine and Oracle Exalytics In-Memory Machine, capable to manage on a centralized basis big and difficult data sets which operate the application working in RAM.

Using Oracle In-Memory Cost Management of the organization can analyze data for optimization of operational and working capital by formation of a profitable product line and determination profitable (from the point of view of the seller) products with the purpose to expand implementation in the existing and new market segments.

The Oracle application of In-Memory Cost Management providing access to data bulks in the mode close to real time includes Oracle Cost Impact Simulator and Gross Profit Analyzer and Oracle Cost Comparison Tool.

The Cost Impact Simulator and Gross Profit Analyzer components work jointly, allowing the organizations to execute a number of business functions which could not be implemented because of a progressive tense of waiting of results of the modeling and the analysis connected with batch processing of Big Data earlier explained in Oracle.

Using these new features of the organization can: make the multidimensional analysis of difficult multilevel material specifications and data on transportation; execute detailed modeling by a method "that if" and operational estimated cost analysis and stocks; to carefully study change of a margin and arrived in general due to influence of different factors — such as inflation, competitive pricing, discounts and potential increase in a tax rate; with ease to estimate factors of future influence on a margin, including undispatched orders and the forecasted demand.

In turn, the instrumental module Oracle Cost Comparison Tool allows the organizations to browse and analyze quickly parts of difficult expense structures for the purpose of identification of the hidden opportunities. Using this tool of the organization can: to quickly process and visualize large volumes of difficult cost data; reduce operating costs; make timely decisions; define the most profitable cost structures; model influence of enterprise-wide costs; propagandize economy of costs on all organization.

In-Memory Applications

The Oracle corporation announced on September 26, 2013 a release of business applications of In-Memory Applications optimized by the option Oracle Database In-Memory for use with Oracle Database 12c which purpose - to increase DBMS performance for accomplishment of analytical tasks, data warehousings, preparation of reports and transaction processing (OLTP).

Specific Features

The applications working at Oracle Database 12c can automatically and is transparent to use Oracle Database In-Memory Option. Existing applications save complete functionality of DBMS at simultaneous performance improvement, and all existing applications of Oracle In-Memory will quicker work with the option Oracle Database 12c In-Memory Option.

Applications as a part of In-Memory Applications

  • бизнес-приложения Oracle JD Edwards EnterpriseOne In-Memory Project Portfolio Management и Oracle JD Edwards EnterpriseOne In-Memory Sales Advisor

  • JD Edwards EnterpriseOne In-Memory Project Portfolio Management

  • JD Edwards EnterpriseOne In-Memory Sales Advisor

  • PeopleSoft In-Memory Project Discovery

  • Oracle In-Memory Cost Management provides access to data bulks in the mode close to real time, in its structure modules: Oracle Cost Impact Simulator, Gross Profit Analyzer and Oracle Cost Comparison Tool.

Cost Impact Simulator and Gross Profit Analyzer work jointly, allowing the organizations to execute a number of business functions which could not be implemented because of a progressive tense of waiting of results of the modeling and the analysis connected with batch processing of Big Data earlier. Oracle Cost Comparison Tool allows to browse and analyze quickly parts of difficult expense structures for the purpose of identification of the hidden opportunities.

In this number of Oracle submitted two new applications of a line Value Chain Planning In-Memory Applications working in RAM at the optimized hardware and software systems Oracle Engineered Systems:

  • In-Memory Consumption-Driven Planning helps to understand, estimate and react to real demand of end consumers, thereby, reducing so-called "effect of a switch" (an imbalance in a supply chain) and improving goods availability indicators on shelves of shops and a goods turnover

  • In-Memory Performance-Driven Planning helps with planning and the analysis of large volumes of these supply chains, receiving more exact and timely business information for modeling of different scenarios in real time, as a result, to improve decision making process and to reduce risks

It is also announced by software of In-Memory Logistics Command Center — the application of the Oracle In-Memory Applications family.
