History

2025: Oxide-Zinc Varistors Production Launch to Protect Against Voltage Surges

The manufacturer of electronic components "Hackel" has opened a line in the Leningrad Region for the production of oxide-zinc varistors for protection against pulse voltages. The first stage of the production line is located in the new building of the plant in the Lomonosov district. This was announced on May 21, 2025 in the regional committee for economic development and investment activities.

According to Delovoy Petersburg, oxide-zinc varistors will be produced under the Key Component brand and used in impulse voltage protection devices. Production is focused not only on the domestic market, but also on exports.

Deputy Chairman of the Regional Government Dmitry Yalov noted that the company produces critical components for electronics, power and telecommunications, reducing dependence on imports. The launch of the new project was a vivid example of the successful interaction of business and regional authorities and will become a growth driver for the entire industry.

Regional authorities provided the company with support measures, including consulting support. Since 2024, the manufacturer has entered the national project to increase labor productivity, which made it possible to speed up the delivery of products to the consumer from 33 to 12 days.

JSC "Hackel" produces fully localized electrical components, specializing in the development of solutions for the protection of electrical equipment. The company was founded in 2002 in St. Petersburg and became the official representative of the Czech manufacturer of electrical products Hakel.

In 2007, the JSC created an engineering center to develop its own products along with the production base. In 2019, the company began construction of a plant in the Greenstate industrial park, the volume of investments in which was estimated at ₽350 million.

After the opening of the production complex in 2021, the company immediately understood the need for expansion. The Hakel brand almost disappeared from the product portfolio, but the manufacturer continued to provide technical support for previously delivered products.^[1]
