The developer of supercomputers T-Platforms company announced on May 13, 2013 project completion on creation of a prototype of the computing system by the order and when financing the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation within the government contract "Development of the hardware-software multiprocessor computer system (MCS) for creation of high-performance computing systems of multipetaFLOPS range".
Parameters and advantages
The high energy efficiency and density of configuration of computing nodes considerably exceeding horizontally scalable servers on these characteristics - main advantages of this solution.
In the cooling system hot water and air are used, they allow to reach optimal balance of energy efficiency, reliability and cost value of a complex. Key components (computing nodes and a switching system) are cooled at the expense of a difference of temperatures of the entering and proceeding water flows. As a result the specialized computing rack allows to take away 150-200 kW of heat that in 5-6 times more, than in the standard rack systems with air cooling.
400 TFLOPS
Peak capacity in 400 Tflops is provided due to use of a configuration on the basis of single-processor motherboards with the accelerator. Dual-processor motherboards allow to reach performance more than 100 Tflops.
As a part of the computer system (MVK) there is no such concept as the server chassis. Components of a system are mounted directly in a rack. Unifying payments connect computing nodes, switches of all levels and modules of management in a system, without use of cable connections. It increases reliability of internodal communications, provides "hot" replacement of components and gives the chance to accelerate service maintenance of a complex.
Appointment
A system is intended for creation of supercomputers of petaFLOPS and multipetaFLOPS ranges of performance. Within the existing interconnect the maximum size of a computing cluster on the basis of MVK can reach 128 computing racks.
Vsevolod Opanasenko, the CEO T-Platforms, noted: "The solution created when financing the Ministry of Education and Science has the considerable potential for implementation both in Russia, and in international market. Based on a prototype development and industrial production of large-scale supercomputer systems is planned".
