IDGC of Volga implemented a geographic information system on the SharePoint platform

The Krone of KS company completed the project on implementation of a geographic information system on the Microsoft SharePoint platform in JSC IDGC of Volga, the press service reported on May 20, 2013.

Terms

The standard of disclosure of information by subjects of the wholesale and retail markets of electrical energy obliges the companies providing power supply of legal entities and physical persons to provide them complete and reliable information about presence of volume of the transformer capacity, free for technology joining of consumers, with indication of the current volume of free power on the centers of a power supply.

With respect thereto the company management of JSC IDGC of Volga made the decision on creation of the geographic information system allowing to organize on the website of the company the interactive map with designation of substations, territories of their action, the current level of loading and also technical and contact information. A system had to support three basic functions: information input on objects, information transfer on the public server of the company and display of objects on the map with use of the navigation convenient for users of the website.

Solution

The contractor selected Krone of KS company. Requirements were imposed to future system:

• an opportunity to display several tens of thousands of objects,
• multi-user mode,
• possibility of access isolation to information – for internal use and for placement on the website.

After thorough examination of market offers the choice fell on Microsoft SharePoint – the platform for creation of the database about objects – and the OpenLayers (OpenStreetMap) resource as the platform for creation of geoinformation cards.

"In SharePoint close integration with the Active Directory therefore it is possible to adjust automatic access control of users quickly is implemented. In SharePoint many useful functions are performed automatically, – for example, formation of lists. As a result, creation of the database of information on objects required no additional programming – a required environment was created by the standard setup device SharePoint", – Vlad Bespalko, the manager with corporate clients of Krone of KS company noted.

"One more important argument for benefit of SharePoint choice – a possibility of differentiation of access rights. It was initially put that a part of information should not be available to the external user – in particular, data which are used only by employees for operational production management. SharePoint provides access control to data automatically, without additional programming", – Sergey Rodionov, the head of department of the application software of department of IT of JSC IDGC of Volga emphasized.

Project implementation took 4 months. In the project for 95% standard means of SharePoint are used, and only 5% are made by a share of additional completions.
