WD Storage, division of Western Digital corporation, provided in May, 2013 WD Se — the first-ever line of the hard drives created especially for operation in the conditions of IT infrastructure of DPC. New high-performance models are constructed on the reliable platform of an industrial class and intended for work in the round-the-clock continuous duty (24x7x365) in large replicable IT environments, network storages of the average level and the systems of archiving and reservation.

WD Se are the drives of an industrial class uniting the available cost and all necessary characteristics for storage of promptly increasing volume of partially structured information which will allow to accelerate development and upgrade of DPC of any sizes. New models have capacity up to 4 TB that will help users to solve a problem of explosive increase in amount of data, using multidisk external storages and not sacrificing at the same time the qualities, major for the systems of industrial level.

A new series of drives is also addressed to users of network storages of small and medium capacity in a segment of small and medium business. They have high reliability and performance and can be operated both in desktop network storages, and in the rack multi-user systems with 24 and more compartments, supplementing, thereby, a line of the hard drives WD Red focused on the small systems. The WD Xe and WD Re series which are designed for high-level network storages logically complete the offer of the company in the field of reliable and productive solutions in this area. In total WD Xe, WD Re, WD Se and WD Red block all range of requirements which are imposed to drives for network storages of all classes and scales.

As well as all Enterprise the disks WD, the disks WD Se pass the functional and temperature testing revealing all problems on production. Development of a highly reliable disk required more than 20 million hours of tests under real loadings within the operating IT systems. Also, in addition to their main technical characteristics, it should be noted:

• two processors — the doubled computing power for achievement of the maximum level of performance.
• Enhanced Rotary Acceleration Feed Forward (RAFF) technology which due to use of modern electronics allows to trace and adjust impact of linear and rotary vibrations in real time;
• The double-drive system of positioning of heads — allows to improve significantly the location accuracy of the block of heads over disk tracks;
• StableTrac technology there is a fastening of a shaft of the electric motor since both ends allowing to increase drive capacity at the expense of the high accuracy of positioning of the block of heads during read operations and record thanks to stabilization of rotation of plates and decrease in influence of external vibrations;
• the multiaxis shock sensor ensures safety of data, automatically distinguishing the most insignificant pushes and concussions;
• Function of elimination of errors with time limit for work in RAIDs (TLER) prevents the loss of drives from RAIDs caused by the big duration of process of elimination of errors characteristic of the hard drives intended for desktop computers;
• the technology of dynamic regulation of height of provision of heads of reading/record over a surface of plates of the hard drive allows to provide optimum level of reliability.
