In May, 2013 information that IBM tries to block the large-scale 10-year contract for providing cloud services worth $600 million signed between the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of the USA and Amazon company in January, 2013 appeared.

IBM also applied for participation in this project, but did not undergo competitive procedures, and now tries to protest the contract, reported the Federal Computer Week edition. For the USA such practice from losers in large state tenders, however, is normal. For example, in 2012 IBM won the contract for $543 million for delivery of wireless sensors for the tracking systems, having protested a victory of HP.

Around the "cloud" project of CIA, for obvious reasons, there is a certain veil of secrecy. For example, data publicly are not provided for what American intelligence agents intend to use "cloud" from Amazon.

Traditional players in the market of separate cloud solutions at the same time are IBM, HP, VMware, Citrix.

The large companies traditionally treat with care Amazon services, at the same time competitors usually oppose it the services, calling them safer and reliable. The contract of Amazon and CIA it actually the declaration of "Cold War" in the market of cloud services. Amazon at the same time works hard on increasing the level of security of own infrastructure. In particular, recently the company announced that it is ready to provision of services in a format of a private cloud.
