HP prepares "revolutionary" server OS
In the first decade of June, 2013 the HP company presented own operating system (OS) of HP Cloud OS which, as it appears from the name, is addressed to users of the cloud computing systems. Initially software will be delivered only with technology HP solutions.
According to Saar Gillai (Saar Gillai), the vice president of HP and the general manager on cloud products, HP Cloud OS "the main will serve for architecture of a convergent cloud of HP". He also noted that the strategy of HP is directed to creation of such architecture which would integrate cloud software and services in a whole so clients of the company could transfer easily the workloads between them. "We build the bridge between the private and public cloud systems", - he said.
According to researches of HP, 75% of workloads of the companies will shortly result from hybrid the cloud systems or in the combined systems consisting of on-premises of clouds and publicly hosted services.
At the heart of HP Cloud OS there will be one of versions of open infrastructure software of OpenStack, but a system will contain also a set of functions which are not at the moment in OpenStack or they are supported poorly.
Among the stated opportunities there is HP Cloud OS, in particular, such as reduction of quantity of various data packets, automatic update, switching of loadings between a cloud service of HP and on-premises a cloud. "We do not change OpenStack but only we add plug-ins on different levels to a system, upper and lower", - explained to Gillai.
The full version of OS at the same time should be waited. Initial a system will become available only as a part of some built-in systems of HP, however, in the company also promise and to provide the public version as "sandbox" which everyone will be able to download and estimate.
On given the moment the pool of HP solutions of CloudSystem represents a set of the configured HP solutions for providing internal infrastructure services at certain workloads. Is later this year Cloud OS will be set on a new server line of HP Moonshot.
According to Gillai, the feature of the offered HP servers will consist that OS will be installed in them on "naked iron", i.e. the additional layer in the form of the server systems of Microsoft will not be required. "It is enough in a revolutionary way. I do not think that in the market there are other commercially available products of this sort", - the top manager said.
