Inventory control or management or how to come to resource management in a warehouse

At the moment in the Russian market prevail, generally the systems of an inventory control even if at them there are possibilities of the organization of addressing of cells of a warehouse and use of wireless terminals. And 95% of such systems are based on accounting platforms, standard for the Russian market. At the moment at making decision on purchase of the program of an inventory control rely on 3 key indicators: the price (less yes it is better), the platform (and we already have a state which services accounting), the similar warehouse program at competitors (means and at me will be). Actually already from this time, selecting the automation system of accounting of a warehouse, one way: work in a warehouse as in accounting. Against such project implementation we have nothing, there are also examples of excellent implementations, but on automation systems of management of a warehouse they do not pull, and are based on key users on who places and without accounting system everything is all right, only do not have assistant for operational management.

In what differences of a system of an inventory control and warehouse management system WMS?

The difference is already in the name: "accounting" or "management". At any time in WMS we know "where" MY, we are in time or not as the resource and other is used, and in an inventory control we consider finished goods and, as a rule, only on endpoints of warehouse processes. WMS reduces dependence of work of a warehouse on his employees, making employees universal and not tied to a specific objective. If the person wants to earn - give him such chance: a universalization and a continuous flow of tasks on the terminal. Only WMS will show you how effectively you use personnel. The simplest example: the warehouse supervisor and the shift supervisor say that collecting of such volume requires 80 employees and they and only they perfectly cope with it. But, having looked at distribution of tasks, it is visible that all 80 begin to move by the end of change and therefore them it is necessary for 80. And nobody says that these 80 - idlers also do not wish to work, there is nobody to show this distribution and there is nobody them to manage. This volume at the correct management is easily processed by 40. And here the correct acceptance on a warehouse is also involved: the goods which still were in transit and participated in orders were accepted first of all and passing the storage addresses, i.e. Cross Dockingom.

Of course, the system of accounting of a warehouse can be increased functionality almost infinitely, but it and will remain an accounting warehouse system. It is necessary to change ideology in a root to approach of the organization of the Managed warehouse.

Transition from an inventory control to management of a warehouse with the help of WMS

As practice shows it is not the unambiguous moment in evolution of a warehouse and all company in general, beginning from need of change of a thoughtway of people and finishing with change of internal warehouse processes and processes of departments of purchases/sales. It is an excellent occasion to carry out high-quality study of warehouse processes and processes of interaction with a warehouse that will take away enough time, but will bring notable result and will prevent option of use of a microscope as the tool for splitting of nuts. Some processes cannot be started "as is" using WMS and to pass to the planned scheme - it is necessary to be ready to transition process which cannot be stopped at all. The stopped process of transition has every chance to destroy all attempts of transition to the managed warehouse. Anyway it is necessary to trust in integrator in this process, for the reason, that transitions are its profile and it does it several times a year, and specialists of the customer there can be 2nd time in life. To the customer's specialists is what too to be engaged - to require high-quality implementation of processes of work of a warehouse.
