Oracle Storagetek T10000D

Product
Developers: Oracle
Last Release Date: August, 2013
Technology: DWH

Oracle announced in the fall of 2013 the tape drive Storagetek T10000D which without use of compression is capable to write of one cartridge up to 8.5 Tb of data with speed of 252 Mbps and is equipped with a 2-GB write buffer. In it the 32-channel head of reading record allowing to write at the same time the tapes given on 32 tracks, and the system of exact positioning of a head SafeGuide System is applied. This storage device continues development of a series of the mainframes and servers intended for service from open arkhitetkury the tape drives of the top class developed by the Storagetek company purchased in 2005 by Sun Microsysytems company which, in turn, was absorbed by Oracle four years ago. It will be able to read out the cartridges written using the drives Storagetek T10000 of three previous generations (the drive Storagetek T10000C released two years ago provides cartridge capacity without compression to 5.5 Tb).

Storagetek T10000D exceeds on capacity the latest version advanced by alliance HP, IBM and Quantum of open tape LTO-6 standard three times, and on high-speed performance — by one and a half times. It also provides hardware data compression at record in the ratio three to one and is the first tape drive using noveshy interfaces of networks of storage the Fibre Channel of 16 Gbps and Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) of 10 Gbps. As well as the previous generation of drives, it supports the LTFS file system allowing to drag files from a tape and on it using a mouse.

Oracle is going to use the new drive in the flagman tape library Storagetek SL8500 thanks to what the maximum capacity of this storage system will grow to 68 EB. The Storagetek T10000D drive will be supported also in library of the middle class with modular architecture of Oracle Storagetek SL3000.
