Far Eastern Federal University launches the Interactive integration environment

On September 19, 2013 the IBM corporation and Far Eastern Federal University announced results of creation of the Interactive integration environment of the University which integrated more than 50,000 teachers, students and employees and also more than 30 systems which until consolidation functioned independently.

Far Eastern Federal University (DVFU) is one of the most dynamically developing higher education institutions of Russia and the Asian and Tikhookensky region. Implementation of the Interactive Integration Environment (IIE) will allow students and teachers to interact effectively with each other, to get online access to knowledge bases and also will promote maintaining joint educational and research projects. IIS of a campus will also become uniform access point to all services and data of separate subsystems, including receiving services DVFU and his partners in electronic form.

At the moment in the interactive integration environment of a campus the personal account of the user using which it is possible to get access to the personified data of subsystems to DVFU and their services is implemented. Students and the staff of the University can, including, receive services in electronic form, perform universal search in subsystems of the University, manage data of subsystems and take such advantages of the integrated social network as communities, forums, tasks, the Wiki, tabs. Thanks to the configured mobile version of IBM Connections and existence of applications for mobile devices users of the Portal had an opportunity to communicate via mobile devices.

"Far Eastern Federal University has more than century history. During this time the University collected the huge knowledge base and created high scientific potential. Consumers of this knowledge are tens of thousands of people annually who in turn also make the contribution to formation of the University. In these conditions for sustainable development of the University it is important to create the unified information environment providing free access, collecting and dissemination of information on the basis of uniform rules and model. A key participant of interaction in such unified information environment is the person – the student, the employee, - therefore issues of social interaction and existence of instruments of joint collaborative work, along with integration questions, undoubtedly, come to the forefront. Within the implemented project, we had an opportunity to answer adequately all these questions" – the director of the Center of development electronic and the DVFU Krasilnikov multimedia services Ilya Olegovich reported.

The project was implemented by forces of the business partner of IBM – Gemini Systems companies.

The Internet portal DVFU is constructed based on IBM WebSphere Portal 8.0, IBM Lotus Forms 8.0, IBM Lotus Connections 3.1, IBM DB2 10.1, IBM ESCA 3.0, IBM HTTP Server, IBM Edge.

After start of the Internet portal training of administrators in work with the products IBM WebSphere Portal 8.0, IBM Lotus Forms 8.0 and IBM Lotus Connections 3.1 was provided.

Further within the project user training to use of systems, connection of new subsystems, expansion of a data model of IIS for a covering of bigger information volume of subsystems and also transition to use of corporate social network of the latest version of IBM Lotus Connections 4.5 is planned.
