Toshiba Electronics: Entrance optocouplers with double polarity for industrial design

Product
Developers: Toshiba Electronics Europe (TEE)
Branches: Electrical equipment and microelectronics

The Toshiba Electronics Europe (TEE) company announced in the fall of 2013 two bipolar high-speed optocouplers (an optron or photon-coupled pair) which can support input signals both with negative, and with positive logic. TLP2395 and TLP2398 will allow to reduce significantly number of components and energy consumption in the industrial systems, since the programmable logic controllers (PLC) and finishing with instrumentations.

Requirements for support of inputs both with negative, and with positive logic in modern PLCs and the control and measuring systems mean that the signal from the optocouplers used in high-speed digital interfaces is transmitted through bridge circuits. However the optocouplers TLP2395 and TLP2398 eliminate this need for bridge circuits thanks to a combination of two LEDs to counter parallel coupling. As in a modern PLC there can be several optocouplers and, therefore, several bridge circuits are required, these optocouplers will allow to reduce considerably the scheme size, to lower energy consumption and to reduce cost.

And TLP2395 (an exit with the logical buffer), and TLP2398 (an exit with the inverter) can work with tension of the power source from 3 to 20 V that reduces the need for transformers of direct current voltage. Besides, each of these devices ensures reliable functioning at a temperature in the range from-40 to +125 °C.

Structures of Toshiba support data transmission with a speed of 5 Mbps and combine short delay on passing of a signal (less than 250 nanoseconds) with low distortion of width of an impulse (less than 80 nanoseconds). Thanks to it they are ideal for RS232C, RS422, RS485 and other widespread industrial interfaces of communication. And at the expense of low input (2.3 mA) and consumed (only 3 mA) current their profitability also increases.

These two new pairs are delivered in the SO6 body for surface mount which two LEDs from arsenide of aluminum-galiya (GaAlAs) and the high-speed photodetector with big gain amount are built in. Despite small mounting dimensions (7.0 x 3.7 x 2.3 mm) guaranteed minimum a way of leakage of current and air gap make 5 mm, and the guaranteed minimum puncture voltage between an input and an exit is equal to 3.5 kV (srednekv.). The built-in Faraday cage provides resistance to transient inphase voltages to ±20 kV/microsec.
