The Moscow Aviation Institute solves educational problems implementation of the PLM complex and CAD solutions

On November 12, 2013 the consulting group Borlas announced implementation of the integrated product lifecycle management system (PLM), including solutions for automated design, preparation of production, reverse engineering CADCAMCAE (//) for students and engineers Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI).

Project Progress

The industrial practice complex created during the project is intended for the solution of educational tasks and carrying out research and development (Research and Development) in the field of the aircraft equipment. It is based on products of Siemens PLM Software company:

  • Teamcenter is a product lifecycle management system;

Specialists of Borlas company performed delivery of software licenses, systems performed tuning, provided consulting support of process of creation of a complex of design technologies. The solution allows to implement the main objectives:

  • increase quality of education of students and training of highly skilled engineers and technologists;

  • use possibilities CADCAMCAE of modern PLM- systems for training and carrying out construction work when developing the aircraft equipment;

  • execute methodical ensuring construction work in the course of creation of the aircraft equipment using automated design engineering systems (CAD), including planning and quality control;

  • implement practical working off of design technologies of the aircraft equipment;

  • use results of researches in educational process by preparation and retraining of specialists of the aviation industry.


Project Results

The project is implemented within the program of development of MAI as national research university. It provides implementation within the university of the concept of educational and certified Competence Center in the direction of product lifecycle management. Creation of an industrial practice complex of design technologies – the first stage of implementation of this concept.

"Within this project in MAI the most modern were implemented solutions for engineers and designers of the aviation industry today. The similar systems are used, for example, by Boeing and OAK. It means that students will gain necessary knowledge and practical skills of work with those engineering systems which they to face at the employers. In addition to the training tasks, possibilities of these systems will allow to conduct researches and design of samples of the aircraft equipment at the highest technology level", - Alexander Rybakov, the director of the department of production consulting of the Borlas group noted.
Vyacheslav Khvan, the director and the chief designer of the Center of design technologies of the MAI aircraft equipment, emphasized: "This industrial practice complex is created in ensuring implementation of a complex of Research and Development and the solution of the educational tasks provided by the research program, development and implementation of design technologies of the aircraft equipment. The concept of information technology development of design and production on the basis of complex multidisciplinary approach, will allow not only to reduce terms of creation of new difficult technical products and systems, but also to increase their quality".
