2023: Supplies of the first Russian composite materials for dental products

Research Institute of Chemistry and Polymer Technology named after Academician V. A. Kargin began mass production and supply of the first Russian composite materials for dental products. This became known at the end of March 2023.

According to the press service of Rostec (this state corporation includes ONPP Technologiya, which, in turn, owns the Academician V.A. Kargin), in terms of its characteristics, new products are not inferior to foreign counterparts, and their cost is 10% lower. The quality of the materials is confirmed by international certificates.

Polymer composite materials are used in the manufacture of chemical and light curing seals, prostheses and artificial teeth, sealing compositions, plastics with special properties. They have high resistance to the chemical and biological environment, functional durability, low content of residual monomer - a substance that has a negative effect on the treatment and strength of the material, and also provide dental materials based on them with high aesthetics.

The production of own materials for dentistry is an important step to ensure the independence of this healthcare segment from imports. Prior to the start of SVO, the share of foreign suppliers in the domestic market was about 90%, a significant part of deliveries were made from European countries. Today, ten types of materials for dentistry have been developed by domestic specialists, "said Oleg Yevtushenko, executive director of Rostec, at the end of March 2023.

According to him, deliveries of Russian products "are possible in a matter of days." In the future, Rostec will be able to completely close the needs of the industry, Yevtushenko said.
