Tander started DPC of the TIER III level

On January 21, 2014 the Technoserv company announced readiness of an IT object - new DPC of the TIER III level created by request of Magnet.

Project Tasks

In new DPC of Magnet the conditioning system and coolings of air includes the latest energy saving STULZ CyberAir system with technology of direct ambient cooling of DFC2 (Dynamic Free Cooling).

Technoserv within the project executed a full range of works, since conducting survey works and design of engineering and computing components of DPC and finishing with installation and commissioning of all equipment.

Project Results

The new DPC of Magnet is expected placement of 84 standard racks. The two-storeyed building is equipped with the specialized systems which are necessary for smooth functioning of DPC: the guaranteed and uninterrupted power, a conditioning system and ventilation, a monitoring system and managements of the engineering systems, systems of gas fire extinguishing, video surveillance, access control and others. Reservation of systems – according to schemes 2N or N+1 is implemented that not lower than the TIER III level on Uptime Institute classification conforms to requirements.

Power supply of DPC (special group I of category) is organized from two independent sources with power over 1.3 MW and provides a possibility of shutdown of one input of the electric power for carrying out planned, scheduled or abnormal works. Double reservation is provided as well for subsystems of regular power supply, an electric lighting, grounding and overvoltage protection. These properties provide reliability of an object for power supply of 99.995% with a downtime no more than 26 min. a year.

The conditioning system and coolings of air includes the latest energy saving STULZ CyberAir system with technology of direct ambient cooling of DFC2 (Dynamic Free Cooling) in DPC. For cooling the conditioned fresh air is used, at the same time in the mode of direct ambient cooling and back a system switches automatically, using, including, differences of day and night temperatures. Cold fresh air comes to the camera of mixing and filtering, cools circulating air up to the set temperature, reducing load of compressors. Use of direct ambient cooling will allow to reduce significantly energy consumption and operating costs for air conditioning.

The storage system in new DPC is constructed on scalable Hitachi Unified Storage VM disk arrays. Originally the capacity of the delivered storage system and reservation of data is about 10 Petabyte, however further can be scaled - it allows modular structure.

The server framework of DPC is constructed on solutions of IBM of the Enterprise level, and network – on a switching platform for DPC of Cisco Nexus and the Brocade switches which are responsible for the high speed of a virtual network architecture and fast movements of applications and large volumes of information both in DPCs, and between them.

As a result of the careful analysis we stopped at the level of reliability of TIER III on Uptime Institute classification. Creation of such hi-tech DPC, – the difficult and labor-intensive process requiring a broad spectrum of competences. We could implement the project at the necessary level thanks to coincidence of two factors: to knowledge of features of IT infrastructure of data centers of Magnet and experiment on creation and upgrade of DPC for the benefit of Technopark Mordovia (the first DPC in Russia certified on category TIER IV Design Documents), Aeroflot, Promsvyazbank, Major computer center of Russian Railway, Tele2 and FMS of Russia", – Evgeny Zakrepin, the first deputy managing director of Technoserv company noted.
