STMC: the standardized valuation methods of laser cartridges
The international committee of STMC (Standardized Test Methods Committee) which is engaged in search and distribution of valuation methods in the field of printing offered two standards for assessment of cartridges at the beginning of 2014: ASTM F1856 and ASTM F2036. The first standard is intended for assessment of the new and recovered cartridges and their components. The second standard regulates measurements of printing density and the hum level for assessment of a resource of laser cartridges.
The technology of testing assumes the following actions: cartridges are established in printing devices then the observer starts printing of a packet of test pages. Printing is made before complete exhaustion of a resource of a cartridge, a photodrum, the termination of a toner or emergence of defects of printing. Cartridges undergo the procedure of weighing to, in process and after testing. It allows to define quantity of the toner which is filled up in a cartridge, spent during testing and remained unused.
Testing assumes measurement during testing of the hum level and printing density. In total during testing from 2 to 5 such measurements are performed, their exact quantity depends on a cartridge resource.
Besides, in the course of testing measurements of an expense of a toner are made. The number of such measurements fluctuates from 1 to 3 times, their exact quantity also depends on a cartridge resource. Measurements are performed through each 1000 pages of printing. After the end of testing interpretation of the received results on the STMC methods is carried out. At the same time the following indicators are estimated: relative and absolute printing density, hum level, printing quality, resource of a cartridge and other indicators. Each parameter is estimated on the differentiated scale.
