On February 18, 2014 the Siemens company announced the forthcoming entry into the market of DEMS Compact - a new cloud service for management of virtual power plants.

Description

New development of the company helps the enterprises of housing and communal services to integrate the small distributed power sources of the clients and to offer collected energy resources to operators of large virtual power plants for sale.

As for creation of small virtual power plant the standard feature set of the DEMS system suffices, at its use costs for a licensed software decrease.

Other advantage of cloud Internet service is that it is not necessary to purchase and service the computer hardware necessary at use of other technologies. In plans of Siemens to begin promotion of service with summer of 2014. Testing is planned together with RWE company - operator of one of large virtual networks. At this stage Internet service should be supported direct sales and use of the distributed energy resources in the mode of a minute reserve.

According to developers, using the cloud version of a management system for the distributed power supply of DEMS the city power-enterprises will be able to gain good income even taking into account own energy demands and the generating capacities, at the same time will make a certain contribution to development of power supply system of the future. In power supply of Germany, for example, an important role is played by the municipal enterprises of power. Locating extensive regional base, they have opportunities to coordinate process of decentralization of power producers that all market participants received the maximum benefits from renewable energy sources or heating stations. Virtual power plants can become the important instrument of such coordinating. The production management system and energy consumption regulates and optimizes activity of the distributed energy generators.

The division Intelligent networks of Siemens company offers the approach in the solution of this question in the form of new cloud Internet service for virtual power plants. The service is based on the existing DEMS system which is already used in many virtual power plants. At the same time in the new version control is exercised using only basic functions. These are interfaces for the distributed generating stations, production forecasting and also the Internet portal through which owners of the distributed stations can sell the energy developed by them in network of virtual power plant.
