"The Russian sea - Production" will organize a failover cluster of virtual machines

On February 18, 2014 the Asteros group announced project completion of the organization of a failover cluster of virtual machines at the Moscow office of The Russian Sea — Production company.

Project Tasks

RMD made the decision on creation of a failover cluster of virtual machines arose at RMD in connection with moving to new office where there was no infrastructure, necessary for functioning of IT services. According to the results of the tender, the contractor from the project selects the Asteros group. Main objectives of the organization of a cluster - minimization of cost of service of IT systems, ensuring reliability of storage, processing and security of information and also a possibility of backup and data recovery.

"The main requirement RMD was to meet the minimum project deadlines as the client needed to start work of new office, – Maxim Gunin, the director of the department of the engineering systems of the Asteros group noted. – As a result the project team managed to create a cluster in only one and a half months and to put it into operation, and it taking into account all stages: formations of technical documentation, design, supplies of equipment for a technical complex, implementation of subsystems".

Project Progress

In a work progress specialists of Asteros designed and created the high-performance failsafe platform for migration of the existing IT services of RMD in virtual infrastructure. For this purpose on the platform of the HP server hardware the cluster with the system of virtualization on the VMware vSphere 5.1 platform with the built-in hypervisor of VMware of ESXi 5.1 is organized. The storage system provides failsafe access of servers of other subsystems. Within the project the backup system with support of technologies of deduplication, compression and enciphering of copies is created. Also work of a cluster is supported by the system of uninterrupted power and the locally computer network (LCN).

Project Results
