2024: Sales of heat and sound insulation for buildings in Russia for the year decreased by 8% and amounted to 71 million cubic meters

Sales of heat and insulation materials and products in Russia in 2024 decreased by 8% and amounted to 71 million cubic meters. The decline in demand for insulation materials occurred in the second half of the year amid tightening monetary policy and a decrease in activity in the real estate market. This is evidenced by data from the BusinesStat study, published in July 2025.

Russian-made products account for more than 70% of heat and insulation materials and products on the domestic market. Domestic manufacturers remain dominant in this segment of construction materials despite the general decrease in sales volumes.

Among the leading enterprises of the industry, the five largest manufacturers of heat and insulation materials in Russia stand out:

In the first half of 2024, there was a high activity of consumers of heat and sound insulation materials. In some regions of the country, requests for insulation exceeded the supply of manufacturers, which indicated significant demand for these products at the beginning of the year.

However, in the second half of 2024, the demand for heat and sound insulation materials began to cool. The main factors of the decline were an increase in the key rate of the Central Bank of Russia, the abolition of preferential mortgages with state support and a drop in sales in the residential real estate market.

The dynamics of the heat and insulation materials market over the past five years has shown uneven development. In 2020, sales amounted to 62 million cubic meters. In 2021, there was a significant increase of 28% to 79 million cubic meters, which was associated with the intensification of the construction industry.

In 2022, the market continued to expand, reaching a peak value of 80 million cubic meters with an increase of 2%. In 2023, a slowdown began, sales decreased by 3% to 77 million cubic meters. The reduction in 2024 by 8% to 71 million cubic meters was the most significant during the period under review.[1]

2023: Russian home insulation market up 4.9% to 80.6 million cubic meters

In 2023, sales of heat and insulation materials and products in Russia reached 80.6 million cubic meters. This is 4.9% more compared to 2022, when the volume of sales of these products was estimated at 76.8 million cubic meters. Such data are given in the BusinesStat study, the results of which are presented in early December 2024.

Analysts take into account various types of heat and sound insulation materials - mineral, fiberglass-based and polymer. These are, in particular, stone wool, slag, glass wool, fiberglass slabs, mineral wool, polystyrene and polyurethane foam slabs, etc. Significant market players are named Techno Plant LLC, Rokvul LLC, Technoplex Plant LLC, KNAUF Insight LLC, ProfKholod LLC, etc.

In 2019, it is estimated that about 61.3 million cubic meters of products were sold in Russia. In 2020, an increase of 0.6% followed - to 61.7 million cubic meters, and in 2021 an increase of 25.9% was recorded with a final result of 77.6 million cubic meters. Such a significant rise was facilitated by the preferential mortgage program, which stimulated the acceleration of construction rates. In addition, a significant driver of the industry was the development of the commercial real estate market (logistics complexes, shopping centers, agro-industrial complex, power) and social facilities in most regions of the Russian Federation.

In 2022, against the background of a worsening geopolitical situation, sales decreased by 1.1% - to 76.8 million cubic meters, that is, there was no collapse. Thermal insulation is used at the final stages of construction, so the demand for it is deferred. And since the spring of 2023, there have been increased sales of building materials, despite negative forecasts, which ensured an increase in the volume of thermal insulation sales.[2]

2013

The volume of the heat insulation materials market in Russia in physical terms last year amounted to 53.4 million cubic meters. m. The state of the market can be described as stable. The growth rate of the market in the last few years is at the level of 14%. Market experts are convinced that the market for thermal insulation materials will grow. Currently, competition is intensifying on it, several investment projects have been implemented to open new production sites and modernize existing ones. Competition is characteristic both among large players and among small ones. DISCOVERY Research Group data.

The growth of the construction industry has a fruitful impact on the heat insulation materials market. Over the past few years, Russia has seen a steady increase in the volume of work performed on the type of construction activity. The demand for thermal insulation is at a fairly high level and continues to demonstrate steady growth.

Domestic products prevail in the structure of the heat insulation materials market, the share of imported products (vermiculite, mineral wool, glass wool) is 5%. Companies producing thermal insulation materials in Russia include TechnoNICOLE, Knauf, Rockwool, URSA and others.

The structure of the thermal insulation materials market is dominated by mineral wool and glass wool. The structure of production is dominated by glass wool. According to the calculations of the Discovery Research Group in 2013, 19.3 million cubic meters were produced in Russia. m of fiberglass-based thermal insulation materials.

The export of thermal insulation materials from Russia is gradually increasing. So, for example, in 2013, the volume of exports increased by 7% in physical terms and reached 977.1 thousand cubic meters. m., in value - $54.5 million. The structure of the export of thermal insulation materials is dominated by fiberglass. In 2013, 396 thousand cubic meters were exported from Russia. m mineral wool and 570 thousand cubic meters. m. Fiberglass.

Imports of thermal insulation materials in Russia are represented by the following companies: ROCKWOOL, PAROC, HEBEI, KNAUF and others.
