Virtual Machine Converter (MVMC) is means of conversion of virtual machines of VMware to a format of virtual disks of VHD on the Hyper-V platform.
On April 13, 2014 the Microsoft company announced release of upgraded version of Virtual Machine Converter 2.0.
Description
Sequence of actions of the Virtual Machine Converter utility:
- on the vSphere platform "picture" of the virtual machine is taken,
- tools of VMware are removed,
- VM is switched off,
- conversion of disks becomes,
- their copying on the Hyper-V platform,
- rollback of the source virtual machine to start state - to "picture".
New opportunities of Virtual Machine Converter 2.0
- Conversion of virtual disks of VMware in the VHD format with a possibility of the subsequent loading on the Windows platform of Azure.
- Native support of Windows PowerShell that allows to develop different scenarios on automation of problems of migration on the Microsoft platform. The old command line interface MVMC 1.0 was replaced with the PowerShell interface in MVMC 2.0.
- Support of conversion of Linux virtual machines from the VMware platform per Hyper-V hosts.
- Support of virtual machines which are in the status "offline".
- Support of a new format of the disks VHDX at conversion and migration of VM on Windows Server platforms 2012 R2 and Windows Server 2012 under control of Hyper-V.
- Support of migration of VM on VMware vSphere VMware vSphere VMware vSphere platforms 5.5, 5.1 and 4.1 on Wednesday Hyper-V.
- Support of guest OS Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8 which can be specified as initial at conversion.
