Dassault Systemes implemented the promo-project

Customers: Dassault Systemes

Information technology

Product: CATIA

Project date: 2013/01  - 2013/12

On April 22, 2014 the Dassault Systèmes company announced project implementation of the BLEU which main objective - creation of own corporate concept car from scratch - demonstration to customers of the latest technologies of modeling implemented in a CAD packet.

Project Progress

The BLEU project proceeded during 2013. Within the project created a team of the creative designer, two specialists in conceptual modeling, two experts in the field of visualization, two specialists in modeling of surfaces of class A and one developer of mechanical models. The important role in the project was played by existence of the 3D-printer for multicomposite printing of Objet260 Connex.

All models received during the BLEU project correspond to five development stages.

At the first stage the team of designers created miniature models. Length of the prototypes printed on the 3D-printer was 5 cm. These models allowed a command to reveal the main shortcomings of construction before continuing further development.

The second stage of the BLEU project participants of a command used 3D models 10 cm long for studying and study of proportions of the concept car. The printed models helped to be convinced that in terms of volume perception and proportions all elements of design are carefully balanced and are perfectly combined with each other.

The third stage of the project — an important element in the automobile building and space industries — production of aerodynamic model (speedform model) necessary for a research of its aerodynamic properties. This model has no parts — wheels, mirrors, an interior, and it should pass wind tunnel tests.

After tests in the wind tunnel the updated and advanced model of the BLEU concept car grew to 26 centimeters.

At the final stage of the BLEU project completely function model is printed. Engineers made changes to construction of the chassis that wheels could move as at this car. Design of the new chassis was performed in the CATIA Natural Shape application by means of which construction is developed.

Project Results

Though originally Dassault Systèmes conceived to show design and design opportunities of CATIA using the BLEU project, the company intends to share technical details of project implementation and to publish STL files — participants of a command started the blog in which all stages of work are documented, online seminars are provided and STL files for house acquaintance are published.
