"The Ostankino meat processing plant" completed implementing solution of management of a warehouse

On April 28, 2014 it became known of implementation in joint stock company Ostankino meat-processing plant of a warehouse management system SAP EWM. The companies took part in the project of deployment and setup of a system SAP CIS and Asteros.

Project Tasks

Mikhail Aseev, the Chief information officer of OMPK, otmtit: "By the time of the beginning of the project all main business processes of the enterprise many years were automated using almost self-written Secretary program, tasks of the warehouse module were carried out by the KIT-logistics system. It was constructed based on technologies of the 90th years of the last century, worked extremely unstably, required permanent attention and periodic labor-consuming manual procedures for cleaning of a DB. System developers were unavailable, and its full support was absent".

Project Progress

At the project long and difficult story. The first attempt is made in times when at the enterprise SAP ERP was not used. The attempt failed as at a start stage in operation problems in interfaces which it was not represented possible to bypass owing to architectural features of "KIT of Logistics" came to light.

Decided to deploy the standard module SAP WMS within the decentralized solution on the basis of SAP ERP. This project failed because of errors in conceptual design, inflexibility of SAP WMS at deviation from the specified concept and lack of professionalism at an implementation team.

Involved consultants of vendor in the third approach. SAP ERP and more powerful and functional SAP solution EWM (Extended Warehouse Management) which is a part of the SAP SCM logistics system was succeeded to integrate joint efforts of an internal command and SAP Consulting.

A choice for benefit of EWM is made for a number of reasons:

  • the product allows the flexible organization of the mixed storage,
  • the broad spectrum of strategy of acceptance and shipment is implemented,
  • completing of the order by several contractors at the same time (it is very important in the conditions of tough temporary standards),
  • supports parallel maintaining two units of measure (piece and kg)
  • control of overloads/underloads at the same time in both units,
  • convenient and productive scenarios of work with mobile terminals of data collection and reading of barcodes.

Roles in the project: specialists of SAP Consulting and Asteros (was responsible for ERP) developed the conceptual project, performed tunings and completions, performed integration into the warehouse equipment. Business analysts of OMPK, relying on deep understanding of processes, became a link between business and consultants, held integration testing, wrote instructions, trained and supported users. The implementation project can conditionally be separated into stages of works on configuring of the EWM system, development of interfaces with external systems and the equipment and to increase in efficiency of functioning of a hardware and software system at the moments of peak load. Accurate observance of the schedule which considered existence of recurrence of the periods of sales was the compulsory provision: "low" and "high" seasons required different extent of involvement of key users and project board.

A system was unrolled in March, 2013. After that the period of stabilization of the solution which came to the end by September began.

The objects set by company management before the project are reached - a system functions.
