2013: Release of the application for the iPhone smartphones and Android OS

In the summer of 2013 the Latvian developers released the mobile application of Roamer intended for owners of the iPhone smartphones and Android OS available in the Russian and English interface. The application, thanks to low rates for GSM calls, began an alternative method to stay in touch abroad with the usual number, upon purchase and installation of the local SIM card.

Investments of $1.3 million

In July, 2014 the Latvian developers Roamer, applications which saves from a payment for roaming attracted $1.3 million investments from a number of private investors with experience in a telecom, including the founder of the British telecom retailer Dial-a-Phone Richard Frank.

Simon Rabin, the commercial director of Roamer, opens that the raised funds will be allocated for promoting of service in the existing and new markets, including the countries of the former Soviet Union, creation and improvement of new features.

"We are going to expand the number of the language interfaces available in the application, to provide additional functionality for travel agencies and much another", - Simon says.

New application version

In July, 2014 the application of Roamer appeared in the new version. There was an option of commission and call acceptance through Internet connection (Wi-Fi or 3G/4G) in addition to usual calls through mobile communication. Use of Roamer on tablets (including iPad) and also with any SIM cards became possible. Rates for trunk calls for mobile and stationary numbers, including from the house, prior to a trip are considerably reduced. There was voice mail arriving on email. The application became available to users from around the world, including Kazakhstan, Belarus, Moldova while earlier it was open only for 54 countries, including Russia, Ukraine and the Baltic States.

Pyotr Antropov, the cofounder of Roamer, notes that rates for roaming are a considerable barrier to full use of communication and the Internet abroad, and solutions like Roamer are interesting both for users, and for investors.

"Before an alternative to roaming were created fragmentary and were too difficult for the mass client. Roamer allows travelers to make and receive calls without costs for roaming using one application from abroad, without refusing usual and favourite services in the smartphone", - the top manager of the company explains.

Roamer also Wi-Fi - depending on what protocol provides the best quality of connection at the moment added a feature to switch communication between the local mobile SIM card, 3G/4G.

The similar option, in particular calls by Wi-Fi, allows users to call through Roamer, without buying the local SIM card. On assurances of developers, users in the responses noted that it is not always possible and convenient to buy the local SIM card at each trip abroad. Now this moment is best resolved.

Also among innovations of Roamer there is use of voice mail. Service converts each message into the MP3 file and sends it on the user's email.

The structure of pricing of Roamer is maximum is transparent. Loading of the application – is free, in the application users just recharge, and further calls are paid for an implementation measure that is reflected at once in the smartphone screen. The cost of minute of a conversation with the specific subscriber is shown before dialing.
