On October 15, 2014 the press service of TsPIKS announced the beginning of the project of development of management tools IT infrastructure in the corporate and departmental computer networks on the basis of SDN and NFVNFV [1]

Project Tasks

The center of application studies of computer networks won tender of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation for research and development of management tools IT infrastructure in the corporate and departmental computer networks on the basis of technology of the program configured networks (PKS/SDN) and virtualization of network services (ARIA/NFV) on 40 million rubles.

The main objective of these projects - working off of the technology of virtualization of resources of infrastructure and information services of the enterprise and management of them on the SDN/PKS technologies platform.

The grant is expected three years and provides carrying out the applied research and development directed to creation of products and technologies on the basis of SDN and NFV.

SDN and NFV have much in common with each other. Both ideologies belong to technologies of computer networks of new generation, both can act in one network environment and have a set of similar characteristics and components.

Both approaches work in one direction:

  • reduce complexity of networks,
  • provide scalability and control automation,
  • increase capacities of physical infrastructure of networks with imposing virtual,
  • simplify deployment,
  • to programmatically fix problems,
  • reduce the OPEX and CAPEX levels.

Notes

  1. (network functions virtualization/virtualization of network functions) - the concept of a network architecture assuming use of the interconnected IT technologies for virtualization of classes of functions of network points as "construction blocks" which can be connected, creating coherent constructions for the organization of communication services.
