On November 20, 2014 the IBM corporation and the Czech agrotechnical university in Prague developed mobile applications, based on IBM MobileFirst Platform which expand and improve opportunities for students in a university campus, in particular, on management of personal finance and access to various services of a campus – from the menu of snackbar prior to the forthcoming lectures.

Choosing a Solution

The university selected the solution of IBM MobileFirst Platform for development and deployment of own mobile platform "My CZU" with an initial application package. The project was implemented in only three months. Applications were programmed by a team of young developers from IBM taking into account specific requirements, skills, habits and the user expectations of students.

Result

Now the My CZU applications help students to manage better the budgets and expenses, and provide an information access of service of a power supply, including the menu of different cafes and snackbars of a campus. The finance application CULS allows students to receive notifications on a low balance in cash on their debit card of a campus, to browse the list of transactions, to set limits of expenses and to compare the expenses to an average value on the university. Students can also block the account from the smartphone if their debit card is lost or stolen.

"We have a large and various international student's audience, and we consider that mobile technologies are the best and effective channel for direct interaction between students and personnel of the university — Petr Dvorak, the Chief information officer of the Czech agrotechnical university in Prague noted. — Cooperation with IBM allowed us to implement quickly our mobile strategy and also to develop the long-term plan which will meet the changing communication needs of our students".
"The universities around the world aim to find technologies like mobile and social platforms for conversion of how they interact with students and also for providing access to new services, such as distance learning which expand opportunities for students and improve their results — Michael King, the vice president of division of Global Education Industry in IBM emphasized. — Mobile technologies, in particular, create new useful user opportunities and provide students with instant access to resources and services of a campus".

Future applications of the mobile platform My CZU will provide access to the directory of training courses, the card of a campus and detailed information on the forthcoming lectures, actions and events and also to connect students with social networks.
