IBM and Administration of Barcelona implemented the solution IBM Intelligent Operations

On November 21, 2014 the IBM company and administration of the capital region Barcelona announced conclusion of an agreement on use of technologies of IBM for more effective management of beaches and parks within territorial jurisdiction of the capital region of Barcelona, based on IBM Intelligent Operations. Within the agreement the administration of Barcelona will use analytical tools of IBM for processing of large volume of data from several sources and cloud computing for acceptance of more reasoned decisions.

Goals and Objectives

Thanks to IBM Intelligent Operations, city officials and personnel of parks and beaches will have an information access in real time for management of the majority of aspects of park economy. The program aggregates all information connected with administration of parks and gives to officials complete idea of all events, infrastructure and objects of the park. For example, in uniform base it can collect data on all children's zones, on the current works on improvement and gardening of the territory of the park, or to provide all information on available actions for elderly people. As for beaches of agglomeration, the program will help to coordinate more effectively use of recreation areas and sport or to react more quickly to different weather conditions, for example during a storm or presence of jellyfishes.

Data integration, use of analytical tools and coordination between numerous parks, beaches and the cities will help officials and the staff of administrations to predict and prevent different problems which can affect the level of satisfaction of citizens.

With the purpose to involve 3.2 million citizens of capital area in the project, the new technology of the reasonable cities will allow inhabitants and to administration jointly to interact and participate in improvement of public objects. For example, the citizen by means of the mobile device will be able to report that the bench in the park is broken, and in the future to check a status of its repair. The city administration by the same method will be able to inform citizens if in the nearest future the park undergoes reconstruction or will be closed for the period of the action.

In the future the cities of the capital region of Barcelona will be able to expand use of IBM Intelligent Operations Center through a cloud and on other regions. The average cities of agglomeration of Barcelona face the same problems, as big cities, at the same time being in conditions of budget restrictions. It, in turn, pushes them to search of technologies which could improve efficiency, improve methods of management of city infrastructure and at the same time provide compliance to needs of citizens.
